Prince Harry announced that Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy
The new father announced the big news from Windsor Castle. “I am very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy early this morning,” he said. “Mother and baby are doing incredibly well.”
At the time, Prince Harry didn’t announce the baby’s name. He claimed that they were still deciding on one. “Still thinking about names. The baby’s a little bit overdue so we’ve had a little bit of time to think about it, but yeah — that’s the next bit,” he said.
There has been a lot of speculation around the potential baby names. People were looking for hints of what it could be all over the place.
That includes looking at reserved landing pages on the royal website. Some found that landing pages were reserved for Arthur, Alexander, and James. It turns out, none of those names were chosen by the royal couple. The one they did choose has an interesting connection to Princess Diana.
One of Princess Diana’s ancestors is Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll
Finally the theories could be proven or disproved. Baby Sussex’s name was officially announced on May 8th through a post on Instagram.
The caption reads, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.”
The name Archibald runs in the family! According to Us Weekly, Princess Diana is a descendant of Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll.
According to Britannica, he lived from Feb. 26, 1629 to June 30, 1685. He was a Scottish Protestant leader who was executed for opposing the Roman Catholic James II of Great Britain and Ireland.
Princess Diana’s siblings were included in Buckingham Palance’s birth announcement
Princess Diana isn’t just tied to the baby’s name. Buckingham Palace released an announcement, which also included members of her family.
“The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news,” reads part of the announcement.
Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, and Charles Spencer are her siblings. Lady Jane Fellowes actually did a reading at Meghan Markle and Princess Harry’s wedding in honor of her sister.
Archibald wasn’t a popular guess when it came to the Baby Sussex name. However, it does have a nice connection to the beloved royal.
