How Chris Evans Spoiled ‘Avengers: Endgame’ for Anthony Mackie

What happens in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ between Captain America and Falcon?

In one of the final scenes of Avengers: Endgame, after returning the Infinity Stones, Captain America decides to live in the past with Peggy Carter.

He then, almost immediately, appears in his new present-day form in an older age to Wilson. He then gifts Wilson the shield, making him essentially the next Captain America.

The scene is one of the most symbolic in the movie, showing a literal passing of the torch between Captain America and Falcon.

Mackie wasn’t keen on what happens at the end of the film before the storyline was inadvertently revealed to him by Evans.

Evans explained, “While we were filming in Atlanta, I had a few people over to watch football or something, and Mackie was the first one to show up. I didn’t know he didn’t know what was going to happen. I say, ‘Hey, man, isn’t that scene fantastic?’ and he said, ‘What scene?’ And I said, ‘The scene where I give you the shield!’ And he said, ‘You’re giving me the shield?’”

“And I said ‘Oh no,’ so I ran to my room and I got the scene and gave it to him, and I got to watch him read the scene for the first time where he’s getting the shield,” Evans said. “And he was so happy and you immediately feel like, ‘Man, maybe I robbed this moment, maybe Kevin Feige deserved this.’ But it was so nice to share it with him. He was so happy and so deserving. It was a nice way to have, just between us, the transition of characters.”

The future of Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie in the MCU

Mackie is definitely set for a lot more adventures in the MCU. He’ll star with Sebastian Stan in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. It is very likely he will also appear in upcoming MCU films as well.

And while all the evidence shows that Evans is done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are rumors that he could appear as a guest star in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

In any event, both actors have huge film roles coming up. Evans stars in Rian Johnson’s murder mystery dramedy, Knives Out. Mackie will star in Apple TV+’s first major film, The Banker.
