How Christopher Meloni Teased Elliot Stabler’s Return To ‘Law & Order: SVU’
Fans of Law & Order: SVU have been waiting for the return of their favorite detective, Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni. After he left at the end of season 12, it prompted fans to immediately want his return, and now we’re finally going to get it. He’s even getting his own Law & Order series called Law & Order: Organized Crime, which will premiere in 2021.
Christopher Meloni was recently involved in a table read for ‘Law & Order: SVU’
Meloni left SVU before season 13 because of a contract dispute. But thankfully, he’s returning rather soon if images of a table read are to be believed. Meloni’s character will come back to SVU for a highly-anticipated appearance before reprising his role in the new series.
Mariska Hargitay, who plays his old partner Olivia Benson, recently shared an image of Meloni with some of the SVU crew in a Zoom call and table read about a week ago. In the video call, Meloni is seen in the upper right corner wearing a bright green shirt. Hargitay snapped the picture with her phone, and the two are joined by a number of other people who work on the show, including fellow actors: Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, Jamie Gray Hyder, and Demore Barnes.
How Christopher Meloni teased Elliot Stabler’s return to ‘SVU’
Meloni recently shared two images that have fans buzzing about his return to SVU. One day ago, Meloni shared an image of his forearm with Stabler’s iconic USMC tattoo. Fans will recall Stabler sported one and he is a former Marine. He has the official emblem of the United States Marine Corps above the words “USMC,” and the tattoo is on full display in Meloni’s post.
“#firstdayofschool,” Meloni captioned the post on Instagram.
Meloni also shared another post of himself and his daughter, Sophia, presumably while on set of the series with the caption on Instagram, “Get to work with my girl- #BestDayEver.” They’re wearing masks and are bundled up for the cold weather.
‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ will premiere in 2021
The new Law & Order spinoff with 13 episodes to come was supposed to debut in the fall of this year, but it’s been pushed back to 2021 now. According to Variety, there was a shakeup involving a showrunner, Matt Olmstead.
But what can fans expect from this new spinoff in the future? Get ready to see Elliot Stabler at the helm of the Organized Crime division of the NYPD. He’s spent some time away, and he’ll have to adapt to a new environment, and hopefully it will be done in true Elliot Stabler style.
Here’s NBC’s description of the upcoming series: “Christopher Meloni, reprising his role as Elliot Stabler, returns to the NYPD to battle organized crime after a devastating personal loss. However, the city and police department have changed dramatically in the decade he’s been away, and he must adapt to a criminal justice system in the midst of its own moment of reckoning. Stabler will aim to find absolution and rebuild his life while leading an elite new task force that is taking apart the city’s most powerful crime syndicates one by one.”
It looks like fans of Law & Order and its spinoffs will get a chance to see Elliot Stabler return to SVU and star in his own show, Organized Crime. Stabler will be back for an episode of SVU in season 22 in 2021 before the premiere of Organized Crime.
