How Colton’s Season of ‘The Bachelor’ Will Affect Hannah B.’s Season of ‘The Bachelorette’

Chris Harrison kept teasing Colton’s season of The Bachelor as something Bachelor Nation had never seen before. Bachelor Nation gets promises like that a lot. But Harrison kept his word this time around.

On Colton’s season of The Bachelor, he jumped an eight-foot fence, quit the show, broke up with everyone to chase after one girl, and got a dumped a bunch of times along the way (including by his own current girlfriend). It truly was a season unlike any other.

Colton broke the rules

Somewhere in between Colton jumping the fence and the show not ending in a proposal, we started to think about the “rules” of the show. Because certain things happen most every other season, Bachelor Nation has a list of expectations. We expect there to be a villain, we expect there to be a certain amount of fighting, we expect participants to not have sex outside of the fantasy suite, we expect an engagement after this crazy two-month ordeal.

So what happens when our expectations aren’t met? As it turns out, we love it. More than we love the insane social experiment that is The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, we loved being surprised.

Colton was just following his heart; he didn’t intend to go on The Bachelor and break every “rule,” but he did. And to Harrison’s and ABC’s delight, Colton’s real-life emotional response was even more thrilling to watch than had he played by the rules.

Colton and Cassie are taking their relationship day by day, like a normal couple. Yes, they signed up to be on a show that clearly expects an engagement, but, lucky for them, the people at home seemed to like the alternative ending even better.

Hannah B.’s season will be different, too

Colton’s season was unlike any other. ABC saw how much Bachelor Nation liked that and then chose Hannah B. as the next Bachelorette. Coincidence? We think not. Hannah B. is awkward, outspoken, bad at public speaking, and messy. She has a lot of good qualities, too, of course. She’s sweet, fiery, adventurous, a loyal friend, and unapologetically herself. But what Hannah B. is, is different. She will most definitely provide us another season that’ll be unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.

Hannah B. wants to get married

As different as it may be, Hannah B. will be following Bachelorette tradition in one regard: she will almost certainly get engaged at the end of her season. She’s spoken several times in interviews about how, despite her age, she’s extremely ready to get married. When she was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen teased her about her age–saying that a 24-year-old is definitely ready to get married after dating someone they met two months prior. Hannah B. laughed it off and said she’s aware of how it may look, but that she wouldn’t have gone on The Bachelor if she weren’t really and truly ready to get married.

As for the rest of the season, we’re looking forward to more surprises.
