How Comcast Xfinity Customers Can Watch ‘Power’ if Starz Gets Dropped
Comcast alarmed customers in October when it announced that Starz would possibly be dropped from its lineup. Fans of Power and Outlander were particularly annoyed upon learning that their favorite show could be yanked from their Xfinity cable subscriptions.
What’s behind the rift between Comcast and Starz?
Comcast plans to switch out Starz in its main bundle package for Epix, thereby removing the 17 Starz channels from the lineup and converting it to a separate, paid add-on option. With Starz no longer included as part of the package, customers would have to pay a $12 monthly fee. Initially, this was supposed to go into effect on Dec. 10, but Comcast agreed to hold off until Dec. 31.
Comcast warned customers of the possible change in October, but as of November, the company started implementing changes by cutting down on the number of Starz offerings. They’ve removed five Starz channels: Starz Edge, Starz in Black, Starz Comedy, Starz Cinema, and Starz Kids & Family. According to Comcast’s site, if they can’t come to an agreement with the Lionsgate-owned Starz by Dec. 31, all Starz content will be removed. That means no more.
Comcast pays networks for their programming, so Starz would lose money under the new, reduced arrangement. 50 Cent, Starz, and lawmakers have been pressuring the cable giant to reconsider keeping Starz and shows like Power on its platform.
Watch season 6 on ‘Power’ on the Starz app
The easiest way to catch each episode is by watching on the Starz app. You can stream the app on any device by downloading it via the Starz website, Apple, Roku, Google Play, the Microsoft Store or Amazon Prime/Fire TV. Starz offers a free 7-day trial for new customers.
One benefit of this is that episodes drop at midnight on the app, hours before the regularly scheduled time.
Watch via Amazon
As mentioned above, you can watch the show with your Amazon Prime account using the Starz app. But there’s an alternative if you don’t want the app, and it’s Prime Video channels.
If you don’t have Amazon Prime, the cost is $12.99 per month for membership (or $119 per year). Once you’ve set up a Prime account, you can order the Starz channel, which is $8.99 per month after the free trial. The Starz channel can be accessed on any device, including Fire TV or a laptop/PC.
Watch ‘Power’ on Hulu
Hulu subscribers can simply add Starz as an add-on option for $8.99 a month to access live episodes of Power as well as other content in the Starz library. This is available for all Hulu customers.
Check it out on YouTube TV
For those who want to switch to a different service altogether, signing up for YouTube TV is an option at $40 per month. A Starz subscription can then be added on for $9 a month as a premium channel.
