How ‘Deadpool 2’ Will Lead into an ‘X-Force’ Movie
The follow-up to the highly successful R-rated movie is here, and fans are already trying to figure out what the plot means for the future of the franchise. Specifically what it means for the X-Force movie that already has a director attached to it.
Well, Ryan Reynolds and the writers behind the sequel talked about how they approached introducing the team to the big screen and what we can look forward to in the future. Here are seven things to know, including how the movie leads to an X-Force movie.
1. The writers chose the X-Force characters based on names and personalities
The original cast is returning in Deadpool 2, but there will be some new faces to create X-Force — a team that isn’t afraid to cross lines to get their job done, unlike the X-Men. So who is on the new team? Domino (Zazie Beetz), Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård), Bedlam (Terry Crews), Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) and Peter (Rob Delaney) make up the crew.
But the screenwriters had many options to choose from, so Paul Wernick explained to Syfy how the decision was made. “We chose Firefist based on his name,” Wernick said. “We loved the name, we thought, ‘How much fun would Deadpool have with a kid whose name is Firefist?'”
The same went for Negasonic Teenage Warhead. “We don’t care what her powers are, it’s gonna be funny.” But screenwriter Rhett Reese also said that things like personality and powers played a factor when figuring out what will work best with comedy.

2. Reynolds said introducing X-Force lessens the burden on Wade
There is an X-Force movie in the work,s but not much is known about it. Reynolds did tell Collider the best part about introducing the team.
“I think there’s a real opportunity to not burden the narrative by shattering Wade’s life,” he said. “So then at the beginning our movie you get to have him just be part of the team, which is obviously a very challenging prospect for someone like Wade Wilson.”

3. How the Disney-Fox merger will affect plans for X-Force
Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, which could change things. Disney certainly came up with its own formula for movies. But this also could mean Deadpool will interact with more Marvel characters.
When asked how this merger changes things, Reynolds said, “I would assume that it’s just gonna be business as usual, but f*ck if I know,” according to Collider.
Next: The actor says he doesn’t want to focus on this one thing.
4. Reynolds says he doesn’t want to think about the X-Force movie at this point
Although it seems like all signs point to an X-Force movie, the movie star says he isn’t quite ready to move forward with that project yet.
“At this point, I don’t want to think about it,” he said according to Variety. “But down the road, I’m sure we’ll figure it out.”
Next: The writer talks about really wanting to set this one thing up in the sequel.
5. Screenwriter Rhett Reese said they purposely tried to set up X-Force in Deadpool 2
While the actor might not be mentally ready for X-Force yet, the writers are. “We took great pains to try to set it up in this movie at the end,” Rhett Reese told Variety. “So I think you’ll have some nice combination of those characters that you see at the end of this movie forming X-Force.”
Next: This will be the deciding factor in whether to make an X-Force movie or not.
6. Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld said it’s up to fans if they will get X-Force in the future
In the end, how a movie performs is directly related to whether there will be sequels or spinoffs. Rob Liefeld nailed that message home, saying, “The door is wide open: X-Force, more Deadpool, the fans are going to speak [opening] weekend.”
Next: This person may direct the X-Force film if it moves forward.
7. Drew Goddard will reportedly direct the X-Force movie
There isn’t much known about the upcoming movie, but Drew Goddard is reportedly going to direct it, according to Collider. He previously helmed The Cabin in the Woods.
