How did Kate Middleton and Prince William meet?

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met all the way back in their college days. Both were students at the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland, and as Kate said during the couple’s engagement interview, she “turned red” and “scuttled off” when first introduced to her future husband.

Kate was dating someone else at the time, which was fine since William saw her as nothing more than a friend. It wasn’t until she appeared in a charity fashion show that William realized just how attracted he was to her. The two were sharing an apartment with two other students, and their relationship turned romantic.

After quietly dating for a while, they finally went public with their relationship. Then after a few years of ups and downs, William sealed the deal when he proposed with Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring during a trip to Kenya.

How did Kate Middleton meet Prince Philip?

Many royal fans may assume that Kate didn’t meet her grandfather-in-law, Prince Philip until her relationship with Prince William was official. However, this is not exactly the way things went down. The Duchess of Cambridge loves sports and is extremely athletic, so it may not come as a surprise that she participated in the gold level of the Duke of Edinburgh Award when she was 20 years old.

She successfully completed the award scheme and, along with the other participants, was invited to Saint James Palace. This is where she had the honor of making Prince Philip’s acquaintance for the first time.

As the loving, doting great-grandfather to her three children, it is only natural that Kate has nothing but respect for Prince Philip. After the Duke of Edinburgh retired from royal duties several years ago, Kate said that she had a desire to “step into his shoes.” She wanted to take on more duties and “emulate” her grandfather-in-law’s role in the royal family.

The Duchess of Cambridge had nothing but sweet things to say about the beloved grandparents of her husband. She often expresses how she “admires” the way he has supported his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, for so many years. In fact, she would like to “model” this behavior, given that someday she will be supporting her own husband when he takes the throne as king.

There is no doubt that being married to a ruling monarch is very demanding. Kate Middleton surely knows that she will live the rest of her life in the royal spotlight, as Prince Philip has done before her. We couldn’t think of a better person than Prince Philip for Kate to look up to and model herself after.
