Taylor Swift is one of the most popular artists in the world and her fans are truly a devoted bunch. While most casual listeners of Taylor will simply enjoy her catchy songs and aesthetically-pleasing music videos, her fans know that there’s actually a whole lot more to the “Taylor Swift musical experience” than what we see on the surface.

So what does this all means and what do Taylor fans know that most other people don’t? Read on below to find out.

Many passionate fans of Taylor are aware that the pop star loves to drop hints everywhere, so unlike casual listeners, they do not take everything at face value only.

Taylor recently revealed this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (her first real interview in three years). The singer opened up about her usage of what she calls “Easter eggs,” which are essentially cryptic messages hidden in plain sight that allude to either future events or contain some other special information.

“I love to communicate via Easter eggs,” Taylor said. “I think the best messages are cryptic ones.”

What are examples of Easter eggs that Taylor Swift has hidden?

There are many, many Easter eggs that Taylor has hidden throughout the years.

The most obvious ones are in her music videos. In her new song “ME!”, for example, fans with keen eyes have spotted quite a few throughout the whole video. There is a photo of the Dixie Chicks, which could allude to future collaboration. There is also a scene of Taylor accepting a cat from Brendon Urie, which could signify the singer getting a new cat. Another cryptic message is the word “Lover” seen on top of a building, which could be a hint about a possible track in Taylor’s upcoming album.

Taylor has also hidden Easter eggs in her performances in the same way. For example, her recent Billboard Music Awards performance was full of them, including many that allude to her older hit singles.

For those who follow Taylor on social media, the singer revealed that she hides a lot of cryptic messages in her posts as well. This came in handy during her Reputation era as she did not talk to the press much at the time, so social media was her main way of communicating with fans.

And what exactly should we be looking for on social media? Jewelry is one thing, she shared. The other is nail colors and designs. “There was a specific occasion where I did a Spotify vertical video for ‘Delicate’ and I painted my nails the exact color tones that I wanted the next album to be,” she said.

It’s also important to note that, actually, anything that Taylor is involved in could potentially be an Easter egg hunting ground. The pop star revealed that she has tried to drop some hints in interviews, too. “I did a magazine interview where I mentioned Brendon Urie and his band, Panic! At the Disco, months before anyone would then find out that I had done a song with him,” she explained.

How do fans feel about Taylor Swift and her cryptic messages?

While Taylor no doubt loves to leave Easter egg for everyone to hunt, there are some fans who think that what she is doing is a bit much.

“I don’t have the time and mental energy for this,” a Reddit user said. “Like she knows we are waiting and watching and obsessing over this and she’s toying with us.”

“This is a problem I have with a lot of TV shows, movies, and now music: fan service taking priority over artistry and storytelling,” another person pointed out. “…Right now it feels like empty pandering and fan service at best and a manipulative marketing strategy at worst. I just hope she’s put as much thought and effort into her music and lyrics as she has into dropping these hints.”

However, other people do not see anything wrong with Taylor’s creative marketing strategy.

“She could choose to give us 0 content in between singles/albums or she can give us clues and things we can go back to in the future with new information,” a fan said. “It’s ridiculous that fans are legitimately upset over this.”

Another user wrote: “She’s basically giving you guys the equivalent of ultra-hard mode on a video game. If you want to play for the challenge, then do it. If you don’t, keep enjoying her music.”
