How Is Meghan Markle’s Estranged Family Reacting to Her Pregnancy Announcement?
If there’s one thing that has become increasingly clear during Meghan Markle’s short tenure as a royal, it’s this: Whatever she does, her estranged family is going to try and steal her spotlight for themselves.
Recently, news broke the Duchess of Sussex is pregnant with her first child. So we sat and waited to see what Samantha Grant and the rest of Meghan’s crazy relatives would say.
And, of course, they did not disappoint.
For starters: Did her family even know she was pregnant?
Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., made a big proclamation a day after Meghan’s pregnancy announcement that he was not kept in the loop about her expecting her first child with Prince Harry.
Which should come as a surprise to no one.
The duchess’s relationship with family members outside of her mother, Doria Ragland, continues to appear to be non-existent. And with how often they openly flip flop their opinions of her when they speak to the press, it’s no wonder they weren’t told by Meghan herself.
Some outlets are saying Thomas Markle wants to mend fences with Meghan and Harry and wants to be part of his grandchild’s life. But given some of the nasty things he has previously said about his daughter in interviews, it seems highly unlikely that event comes to fruition. The guy did trash her on Good Morning Britain and spark the need for the royal family to have emergency meetings about Meghan’s well-being. That certainly doesn’t sound like the type of energy you want around as you’re prepping to have a baby.
And what did Samantha Grant have to say?
Come on, there was no way Grant — who uses the last name Markle on her social media accounts — was going to let this news go without giving her two cents. And when Grant isn’t slamming her famous half-sibling, she’s contradicting herself and making it sounds as though they are best friends.
She accomplished both feats in her statement to The Sun regarding Meghan’s pregnancy.
“It just makes everything that happened over the last year disappear,” the statement starts. “I want Meghan to be happy and calm and have peace. Everybody needs to be positive.”
Then her message takes an abrupt turn and questions why their father was left out of the pregnancy announcement from Kensington Palace. (The announcement names Meghan’s mother, but not her father.) “I would hope that — for the sake of the baby, the family, the world and my dad — that leaving him out of the statement was not intentional.
“I hope my dad is included and at a proper time. If he is excluded, I won’t be happy. It is in the best interests of the baby for my dad to be included.”
Grant’s statement ends by saying she hopes to eventually sit down with Meghan and Harry and make things right. But with how quickly she’s turned around and insulted the Sussexes in the past, it seems highly unlikely they will sit down with Grant any time soon.
Or be taking her “advice” on what’s in their baby’s best interest, for that matter.
