How Jed Wyatt’s Ex, Haley Stevens, Responded To ‘The Bachelorette’ Finale

Hannah Brown ended her engagement to Jed Wyatt when she learned that Wyatt had come on The Bachelorette with a girlfriend. Haley Stevens, Wyatt’s ex, came forward mid-season to say that she and Wyatt had been pretty serious before he left for Los Angeles to film the show. She said he told her that he was participating with the sole purpose of promoting his music, and that he always intended to return to her.

“We spent the night together the night before he headed to L.A.,” Stevens told People. “He told me [the show] was just an obstacle and we’d be stronger on the other side because of it.”

Jed Wyatt’s version of his relationship with Haley Stevens and his eventual apology to Hannah Brown

During Brown’s season finale, Wyatt shared his side of the story

He hugely downplayed his relationship with Stevens, saying he never considered her an official girlfriend despite frequently swapping “I love you”s, going on trips together, and knowing each other’s families.

But during “After The Final Rose,” Wyatt took ownership and apologized for his actions.

“From the bottom of my heart, I want you to know that I’m sorry. Apparently, they’ve already shown where I half apologized but, especially in hindsight, now that I’ve had time to review myself and my past and my behaviors towards not only you but other people, I fully see that I wasn’t the best that I could be,” he said.

Wyatt continued: “And by lacking details to you, the things that you deserve, and the things that you want, it kind of–not kind of–it ruined what we found here in a place that I never would have expected to find love like this with someone that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And I know that you felt the same and I’m sorry that I took away that experience from you. I’m sorry that this has hurt your family, your friends, Bachelor Nation, everyone, my family, I’m sorry. I’m responsible for this. I will own up to it all day.”

Stevens, understandably, couldn’t stomach sitting down and watching the finale, but she says she’s heard bits and pieces from friends and family.

First and foremost, Stevens feels relieved that everything is out in the open, she told ET in a post-finale interview.

But she still feels uneasy with the disconnect between the man she fell in love with and the man she’s “seeing on [her] TV screen.”

“There’s been a disconnect because I fell in love with this person who told me that they loved me and then now I’m kind of on the backside of this thinking how did I miss this? Who is this person that I’m now seeing on my TV screen? It’s just like a weird disconnect. I truly believe good people do bad things but I’m just kind of missing how we could be here honestly,” she said.

On the night the finale aired, Stevens posted a photo to Instagram of her and her father.

“Can’t think of a better way to spend this evening than with the best man I’ve ever known. I love you Dad,” read the caption.
