How Jon and Kate Gosselin’s Son, Collin Gosselin, Felt About His School for ‘Special Needs’
It’s hard to believe Jon and Kate Gosselin have been divorced for a decade, as we remember when their TLC series, Jon & Kate Plus 8, first aired. The Gosselins are known best for having a pair of twins and a set of sextuplets. And when their show began, fans loved viewing their family dynamics and watching their adorable kids grow up. Unfortunately, things devolved fast for Jon and Kate, and their battles over custody and money became public knowledge fast.
One of the sextuplets, Collin, has been in the news more than his brothers and sisters — and that’s because Kate sent him to a special facility to deal with behavioral issues. Sources close to the family have expressed how he really felt about the school, however. Here’s the information they relayed.
Kate sent Collin to a ‘special needs’ facility back in 2016
No matter what viewers of Jon & Kate Plus 8 have to say about Kate Gosselin, there’s no doubt she cares for her children. And she discussed some alarming news to People back in 2016. She told the publication that she was enrolling her 12-year-old son Collin in a school away from her and his siblings to help him learn behavioral skills. As she told People, “Collin has special needs. [There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own.”
Kate went on to say how she felt she made an investment in Collin’s future with this program, but fans didn’t necessarily agree. While Kate has talked as early as 2010 about Collin’s behavioral problems that she believes stemmed from the divorce, Jon has been quick to negate that Collin has any issues whatsoever. In Touch Weekly reports when one fan asked Jon on social media about Collin’s condition, Jon stated, “he is not on any spectrum or special needs.”
Jon’s friend said Collin seemed bummed about the school

A HUGE thank you to Eric Rodriguez @ebarber828 at Mike and Joes Barber shop for welcoming my son Collin home with a fresh new cut!!! Eric has cut my hair for 20 plus years. #family #teammikeandjoes I appreciate everything Eric and Everyone at Mike and Joes has done for me and my family over the years. Thank you guys for being there!!!
If Collin was attending a separate school from his siblings, fans hoped he was at least happy and thriving — but Jon’s friend said it seemed like Collin didn’t want to be there at all. Eric Rodriguez, a barber and close friend of Jon’s, spoke to Radar Online regarding Collin’s feelings when he saw the child in 2018. While Eric was cutting Collin’s hair, Collin allegedly seemed bummed when the facility he was attending was brought up in conversation. “He just said to me, ‘I can’t wait for Thanksgiving break! And to come home,'” Eric added.”I asked him if he was excited about going to regular school and he said, yeah he’s super excited about it.”
Eric also said that Collin is a very nice kid even though he already has a reputation with the media for a troubled past. And the barber definitely wants the best for Jon’s son, too. “I can definitely tell that he can’t wait to come home. I don’t think he really likes the place,” he continued.
Collin’s now living with Jon and may be attending school with sister Hannah
At the end of 2018, we remember when Jon and Kate were set to go to court over custody of Collin. And People reports Jon was awarded temporary sole custody of their son after Kate failed to show up. Not only did Collin allegedly want to live with Jon over Kate, but Jon also noted to reporters that his son would have an easier time transitioning out of his program and into a normal school if only one parent was involved.
Is Collin totally finished with his “special needs” program? We’re not entirely sure, but it appears he might be, as he’s been in many of Jon’s Instagram photos as of late. And many believe there’s a good chance he’s returning to school with his sister, Hannah, instead of the district his other siblings go to.
