Katheryn Winnick is a Canadian actress, director, and producer. But she’s probably best known for her role as Lagertha in the hit History series Vikings. Although she was killed off in season 6, she still managed to snag a Critics Choice Super Awards Nomination.

‘Vikings’ has received Critics Choice Super Awards nominations

On November 20, Winnick took to Instagram and reacted to her nomination. She shared an image of herself as Lagertha with a shield and battle gear on, and she expressed a sweet sentiment to her fans. She says she’s “extremely proud” of the show, and fans couldn’t agree more.

Katheryn captioned the post: “WOW! Thank you Critics Choice Awards for the BEST ACTRESS NOMINATION for VIKINGS. After 6 years of blood, sweat and tears, I am extremely proud of this series and truly humbled by all the love and support for Lagertha. Thank you! 🙏🏻.”

Lagertha began her time in ‘Vikings’ as Ragnar Lothbrok’s wife and a shieldmaiden

Lagertha was the wife of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), and she was already a fierce shieldmaiden when fans first came to meet her. Ragnar became an earl, making Lagertha an earl’s wife. But Ragnar cheated on Lagertha with Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and she became pregnant. Lagertha divorced Ragnar, and made her own way. She eventually became the earl of Hedeby, but all around her, there was betrayal. Kalf (Ben Robson) even usurped her rule, but she eventually got revenge on him and killed him, taking back Hedeby.

Years later, she even took Kattegat back from Queen Aslaug, and killed her too. Lagertha became the queen, but she had to deal with Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen), as she had killed Aslaug, his mother. He took Kattegat from her, but eventually her son, Bjorn Ironside (Ludwig) took it back and was proclaimed king.

In season 6, Lagertha loses her life after fighting the bandits and their leader, White Hair (Kieran O’Reilly). She wins the fight, but is badly wounded, and decides that she must tell Ubbe (Jordan Patrick Smith) and Torvi (Georgia Hirst) what’s happened. She rides off alone on her horse, arriving in Kattegat in the rain. Hvitserk (Marco Ilsø) is hallucinating at the time, and sees her as a giant snake, and he stabs her to death. As she dies, Lagertha tells Hvitserk of the prophecy that she would be killed by a son of Ragnar.

Everyone mourns the loss of Lagertha, the Mother of Norway. Her journey inspires countless women, and it’s evident by those who mourn her during her funeral.

We’ll have to wait and see if Katheryn Winnick manages to snag the award that her fans know she deserves for her time as Lagertha in Vikings.
