How Long Has Meghan Markle Been Waiting for Motherhood?
These days, news outlets everywhere are excitedly covering stories about Meghan Markle and her expecting baby (dubbed Baby Sussex). No doubt many fans and royal watchers cannot wait to see what Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s firstborn will be like, as well as how the couple will go about raising him or her.
The Duchess of Sussex herself also seems to be full of joy whenever she talks to fans about her baby bump and there is a good reason for that.
Did you know that Meghan Markle has been looking forward to motherhood even before she started dating Prince Harry? Find out more about this interesting tidbit below.
Meghan Markle talked about wanting to be a mother in 2015
In an interview with Best Health in the fall of 2015, Meghan Markle was asked if she had any bucket list items. At the time she was an actress on the TV show Suits, so Meghan Markle shared a few goals she had for her career. However, she also added: “I want to travel more and I can’t wait to start a family, but in due time.”
It’s obvious that motherhood had been on her mind a lot back then because in another interview, Meghan Markle talked about passing down a watch to her future daughter.
“When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season – which, at the time, felt like such a milestone – I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version [of the Cartier French Tank watch],” she said. “I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”
However, a Cartier watch is not the only thing that Meghan Markle wants to share with her future children. During a rapid-fire interview that same year, she said that in the future she would like to read to her kids The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein.
It’s easy to understand why, in her 30s, Meghan Markle was thinking a lot about being a mom. After spending time building a great career for herself, Meghan Markle revealed that motherhood to her was the next step.
She told Lifestyle magazine in 2016:
“I dreamt [of becoming] a successful working actress… And I also dream to have a family. It’s all about balance, and I have so much happiness in my career and am fortunate to travel the world and see so many amazing things. It will also be nice to be anchored to something grounded and in the same place. Raising a family will be a wonderful part of that.”
This vision led her to Prince Harry, who shares the same hopes and dreams as Meghan and has what it takes to be a great father.
What will Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s parenting style be like?
No doubt Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been thinking a lot about how they can give Baby Sussex and any children they might have in the future the best possible life in the royal family.
Fortunately for the couple, they are given more freedom from rules and restrictions compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton since Prince Harry is not inheriting the throne anytime soon.
It has been speculated that they will try to be emotionally close with Baby Sussex and ditch the old-fashioned royal norms of leaving kids to be raised by nannies.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will most likely also not send Baby Sussex off to boarding school and, like Prince William and Kate Middleton, opt for educating their child at local institutions instead.
Meghan Markle is also significantly more progressive than most royal family members and has said that she will raise her child to be a feminist regardless of gender.
There have even been reports that she and Prince Harry will give Baby Sussex a vegan diet, though this has not yet been confirmed. But seeing as Meghan Markle is a huge advocate for healthy eating, she definitely will make sure her child is eating lots of vegetables and other nutritious food.
