How Meghan Markle Is Quietly Repairing Her Damaged Image
It’s no secret that Meghan Markle has not been embraced by the world’s media. The former actress has suffered from negative publicity ever since the start of her relationship with Prince Harry, but it definitely reached a fever pitch over the past year.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had what many have called the “summer from hell,” with multiple scandals, including uproar over Markle’s Wimbledon appearance and lots of backlash over their outspoken environmental activism. Still, within the past month, Duchess Meghan has buckled down and gotten to work trying to undo some of the damage and change the narrative as well as the media’s perception of her.
The Duchess of Sussex has taken clear steps to try and repair her public image.
Has Meghan Markle hired a new publicity team?
Markle is no stranger to carefully-crafted publicity and worked with stylists, reporters, and other marketing professionals during her time in Hollywood. Still, the culture shift from Hollywood to the royal family had to have been intense, and Markle definitely suffered during the transition.
Some of the reports that circulated about Markle in the past several years have painted the picture of her as being difficult to work with, demanding, and a “diva” with the palace staff. Whether or not those reports have any truth to them, they have affected the public’s perception of the duchess.
Markle might have finally had enough of the stories. PageSix reports the duchess hired Madison Avenue public relations firm Sunshine Sachs in order to rework her tarnished image and help rebuild some of the damage that has been caused over the past year. While the report also states Markle wants to “break the internet” with the help of her new PR team, it is also likely that her goal is slightly smaller: To help the public see her as a force for good, rather than a demanding diva.

One of the reasons Prince Harry and Markle have been less-than-popular with the public lately is that they have been very protective of their son, Archie Harrison. For instance, Markle and Prince Harry made the decision to keep his christening ceremony ultra-private, further widening the divide between themselves and their fans. While some level of privacy is certainly understandable, they are still public figures, and the argument that they “owe” some pictures and videos of their son to their fans has been made.
However, during their recent trip to Africa, the royal couple brought their young son with them. They even brought Baby Archie to several meetings and engagements, giving the public their best look at the baby yet. This definitely pleased royal fans and even brought some positive press to Markle and Prince Harry, which could have been part of their plan.
Meghan Markle’s Africa tour was successful
During her Africa tour, Markle made sure to make several visits to charities and organizations designed to empower women and children. Markle significantly dressed down during the trip, wearing less jewelry and very simple clothing, designed to help her connect on a common level to the ordinary citizens that she was meeting with. She was praised for her behavior while in Africa, with royal sources stating that she “has shown a gift for connecting with all levels of society in South Africa.”
Even people on social media praised Markle for her work in Africa, possibly signaling a new era of appreciation and respect for the Duchess of Sussex. While only time will tell whether or not this positive upswing continues, for now at least, Markle’s efforts to change her image seem to be working.
