How Meghan Markle Is Similar to Princess Diana
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex may be new to the Royal Family, but she shares numerous similarities with Princess Diana, her husband’s mother. The two are alike in more ways than one and would have gotten along well with one another, according to Prince Harry.

Meghan Markle was interested in Princess Diana while growing up
Morton revealed that Meghan was very interested in Princess Diana while she was growing up. “I think it would be wrong to make huge direct comparisons – people get quite upset about making comparisons, as they did when Catherine came into the family,” Morton explained. “The question then was: ‘Is she the new Diana?’ Of
Princess Diana and Meghan Markle are united with a desire to better the world
Morton also mentioned the desire of each of them to make a difference in the world in any way they can. He also hinted that Meghan is picking up where Diana left off.
“Having said all that, what unites both of them is the desire in wanting to give back and make a difference,” said Morton. “By the time they got into their 30s, Meghan and Diana were independent humanitarians with a vision… and also it strikes me that Diana died at 36 and Meghan’s coming into the family at 36. There’s a sense that Meghan is picking up the baton dropped by Diana.”
They are both advocates for others
According to Harper’s Bazaar, Diana was a major advocate and at one point, she was a patron of more than 100 charities. She would visit people in hospitals and schools and she was known for her hours spent amongst the common people listening to the stories of their lives.
Meghan is an advocate as well and it’s one of the things that she shares with Prince Harry. According to Vanity Fair, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, was influential in making sure Meghan knew what was going on in the world, including political and economic issues.
Meghan Markle is a role model just like Princess Diana
Meghan has used her celebrity for good and has even spoken about the #MeToo movement. She joined Prince Harry along with Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge last year to spotlight the work done by The Royal Foundation.
“I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment. You will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices,” Meghan said. “I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices. They need to be empowered to use [their voices] and people need to be urged to listen. Right now with so many campaigns like #MeToo and #TimesUp, there’s no better time to continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people supporting them.”
Prince Harry knows his mother would have gotten along with Meghan Markle
Prince Harry spoke about his mother during a joint interview with Meghan after they had announced their engagement. He believes they would have been friends and gotten along well together.
“Oh they’d be thick as thieves, without question, I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends—best friends with Meghan,” Harry said. “It’s days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news. But you know with the ring and with everything else that’s going on I’m sure she’s …” And Meghan finished for him “… she’s with us.”
