Even though the baby shower took place back in February of this year, people are still talking about how expensive and elaborate the celebration was. Many people were shocked when they found out just how much her friends had spent on the shower.

Markle’s close friend, Serena Williams, went all out when it came to throwing her BFF the perfect baby shower. The event took place at the prestigious Markle Hotel in New York and according to Vanity Fair, the suite that Williams had rented had cost about $75,000 a night.

In order to get to the shower, Markle flew across the pond in a private jet that reportedly cost around $100,000.

There were many celebrity guests there, including Gayle King and Amal Clooney. The guests were treated to a flower-arrangement lesson by a professional florist and dined on some gourmet sweets prepared by a world-class chef. When the party was over, the guests and Markle went home with a goody bag that included hand-stitched sweaters, a leather tote bag, beauty products, and hard-sided luggage from the luxury travel brand, Away.

The entire shower was estimated to cost around $200,000. Members of the royal family don’t really like to flaunt their wealth in the face of others, but it was Markle’s friends who paid the bill, so many people thought that the cost of the party was no big deal.

Meghan Markle received backlash for her baby shower

While there were plenty of people who thought that the baby shower was a nice gesture from Markle’s friends, there were several other people who thought that the baby shower was just a little too extravagant and over the top.

The Queen’s former spokesman Dickie Arbiter said: “Baby showers, it’s very much an American thing. We don’t do it here in the UK. It was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way she got there.

Even though there were a few Markle was faced with a few critics, she reportedly had no regrets about having a baby shower. She also had a wonderful time at the shower and there was never any indication that the royal family disapproved of the baby shower.

Did Meghan Markle Know that her lavish baby shower would cause an uproar?

At the time of the shower, Meghan’s friends and family had gone through great lengths to keep the event a secret from the public. However, the media was still able to figure out the details of the party and were waiting for the Duchess when she arrived at the hotel.

It was first reported that Markle had existed her party through the side entrance of the hotel in order to avoid the media frenzy. However, Daily Mail had recently obtained state documents that stated that the reason the Markle had existed through the side entrance was that she didn’t want to give the impression that she was seeking the media’s attention.

If the documents are true, then this means that Markle was not caught off guard by the media frenzy outside of the hotel, and instead knew that her party would cause an uproar.

There is a good chance that Markle did, in fact, know that her party would create a media frenzy. However, because she is one of the most talked-about people in the world right now, any event that she decides to have in a public place is sure to cause the media to gather.
