How Much Does Brad Pitt Pay in Child Support (And How Much More Is Angelina Jolie Seeking)?
There was a time when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship seemed unbreakable. But since their very-public split in September 2016 after Pitt clashed with their teenaged son, Maddox, it appears a lot has been going on beneath the surface. Now, Jolie has reportedly accused Pitt of not paying his mandated child support payments, Fox News says.
They went through an intense custody battle in June over their six kids
The couple filed for divorce back in 2016, but the court battles regarding their children are ongoing. People reports in June 2018, Jolie may not be holding on to primary custody of their six kids. The court ordered that she had to improve relations with Pitt, as her negativity is affecting the children. The documents said that “it is critical that each of [the six] children have a healthy and strong relationship with their father and mother.”
Family law attorney David Glass, who is not associated with the case, thinks this could be a case of Jolie purposely harming the relationship with Pitt and their kids in order to turn them against him. This idea is consistent with what else the court ordered. The judge allegedly provided Jolie with steps she should take to help repair Pitt’s relationship with their kids, which included a summer visitation schedule and phone access that she can’t interfere with.
Jolie may request retroactive child support dating back to 2016
Jolie and Pitt made informal child support arrangements before — but now, it seems Jolie is ready to take it all to court. Fox News explains Jolie has accused Pitt of missing payments dating back to 2016. The divorce papers she filed allegedly requested formal child support payments moving forward as well as retroactive payments for two years.
How much does this amount to? While no numbers have been disclosed, it’s certainly in the millions. Heavy reports Pitt’s net worth is estimated around $240 million as of 2018. Babble reports stars like Charlie Sheen and Eddie Murphy pay over $50,000 per month in child support — and their net worth is a fraction of what Pitt has made.
Not only that, but Pitt also has six children to account for. Back in 2017, The Express Tribune reported that one source said Jolie requested $250,000 for each child each year, capping it at $5 million. That’s $1.5 million he may be shelling out yearly.
One source says Pitt has ‘paid millions’ in support
According to a source that spoke with People, Pitt has “easily paid million” in child support to Jolie since September 2016. As the source said, Pitt paid “far more than any informal agreement would stipulate and far more than any judge would have ordered paid if there had been such an order.” While we don’t have the exact numbers, perhaps Pitt did follow suit with Jolie’s alleged requests in 2017.
As far as Jolie’s side of the story goes, her lawyer stated in filed paperwork that Pitt has not “regularly sustained” his informal child support arrangements, despite what other sources have said. And a spokesperson for Jolie also claimed the purpose of this filing was to “provide closure to the marriage” so they can both “recommit as devoted co-parents.”
Is it all a publicity stunt?
Jolie’s team have stated why she’s filing now, but others remain skeptical. Page Six reports sources close to Pitt say this is happening now “because Brad became fed up and said he wanted to start the formal process of divorce again and filed papers to do that.” If you recall, the couple’s formal divorce proceedings were temporarily stopped so they could deal with their custody battle.
The source added, “This is nothing more than a publicity stunt because he wanted to restart the formal process to divorce.”
