How Much Longer Will the Kardashians Last on TV?
America’s most famous reality family, the Kardashians, have been around since 2007 and are showing no signs of going anywhere. With the latest season of their iconic reality show getting great ratings, coupled with a number of tabloid news stories revolving around the K-gang, it seems likely that fans will continue to follow their exploits onKeeping Up With the Kardashians for many years to come. That is, if Kris Jenner has her way.
What is ‘KUWTK’ about?
In 2007, Keeping Up with the Kardashians premiered on the E! network. Although some viewers were somewhat aware of the family prior to the TV show, it was primarily for Kim Kardashian’s infamous sex tape. Keeping Up with the Kardashians introduced fans to the rest of the large, loud clan: matriarch Kris Jenner and her then-husband, former Olympian Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner); daughters Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe Kardashian; son Rob Kardashian; and the youngest members of the family, Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians documented the daily life of the family, and although their misadventures didn’t look much like what the average family deals with on an everyday basis, viewers loved how close the family was. No other reality show had shown quite so much or gotten so in-depth – and the ratings reflected that originality. Over the years, the cameras have been present for all the family’s major life events, including Kim Kardashian’s short-lived marriage to Kris Humphries, her eventual romance and family with Kanye West, and Kourtney Kardashian’s relationship with the father of her three children, Scott Disick.
The show eventually led to a series of spinoffs that followed individual family members and even Kardashian associates: Life of Kylie, Dash Dolls, Kourtney and Kim Take Miami, and Kourtney and Kim Take New York. The E! network has also featured a number of specials over the years that focus exclusively on major events within the family, including most notably, Bruce Jenner’s transition to Caitlyn Jenner.
Will the family keep filming ‘KUWTK’?
Although Keeping Up with the Kardashians has been wildly successful by any stretch of the imagination, “momager” Kris Jenner reportedly is nowhere near ready to let the show go. With season 16 currently airing Sunday nights on E!, Jenner is hard at work making sure that fans continue to get their Kardashian fix for the foreseeable future. According to a recent report, Jenner is currently in negotiations that would ensure the show stays on the air for an unprecedented five more seasons.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians certainly is still popular — the famous family seems to always find a way to stay in the headlines, which in turn helps the ratings of their reality show. Whether this is by design, sheer coincidence, or some magical combination of the two is not certain. Either way, when the sixteenth season of the show debuted in late March, more viewers tuned in than they did the previous season.
Will fans continue to watch the show?
The numbers speak for themselves, and fans clearly still can’t get enough of the Kardashian family. With so many individual storylines converging this season, from the cheating scandal weathered by Khloe Kardashian to the upcoming arrival of Kim Kardashian’s fourth child, it is likely that fans will be more invested than ever.
Although the Kardashian family has experienced their fair share of detractors over the years and weathered complaints that their show (and their struggles) are too superficial, it seems that they always come out on top. Whether you love them or hate them, there is no doubt that the Kardashians genuinely love each other, and that their commitment to the family has led to a thriving business empire.
