How Much Money Is Disney+ and Is It Worth It?

Disney+ is the hot new streaming service that everyone is talking about. Featuring a roster of familiar favorites, blockbuster movies, and all-new content, Disney+ launched in early November.

It is still making waves and will likely continue to do so for the next few months, as the platform rolls out exclusive new content that won’t be available anywhere else.

Still, Disney+ has received some criticism over the past weeks, which has led many to wonder — is the streaming service worth it?

Keep reading to learn how much it is to stream Disney+, the criticism that it has received, and whether or not it is worth the price.

Disney+ launched on November 12th, there were already legions of eager fans who had preordered the platform, in order to be among the first to access the exclusive content promised. Disney+ certainly came in hot, and at a very reasonable price of $6.99 per month, undercut both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. It is slightly more expensive than Hulu, which is priced at $5.99 per month, and Apple TV+, which is $4.99 each month.

Still, Disney+ has a distinct advantage over many of the other streaming platforms in that it features so many popular programs – including the Marvel and Star Wars franchises. Streaming services like Apple TV+, for example, is notoriously low on content for the time being.

There have also been some bundle deals available, for savvy consumers to save the most money possible while still getting their entertainment fix. One bundle deal that was announced in August allows interested customers to download Disney+, ESPN+ and a limited version of Hulu, for the price of only $12.99 each month.

While there are some limitations to this bundle, it definitely allows consumers to enjoy three of the major streaming platforms at the same time for a very reduced price.

What criticism has Disney+ received?

Even with the anticipation surrounding the launch of Disney+, there has been some criticism of the platform. A few critics have stated that the platform is not as cutting edge as it could be and that there is not nearly enough content to attract mature viewers.

Of course, there were also numerous issues upon the initial launch, with the platform glitching out and having technical issues

Some viewers are angry about the fact that not all Disney movies are available as of yet on Disney+. Due to some previously-made deals with Netflix, movies such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Thor: Ragnarok are still only available to stream on Netflix, although they should arrive on Disney+ soon.

Is Disney+ worth the money?

In spite of the few small issues with Disney+, it does seem as though people are very happy with it, in general. After all, it features a wide variety of classic Disney films, both live-action and cartoon films that were released in the fifties, sixties, and seventies – movies that bring older viewers right back to their childhoods.

The new content is also getting rave reviews, especially the brand-new series The Mandalorian

There are a lot of new releases coming to Disney+ over the next few months, including the Obi-Wan Kenobi series (no release date has yet been given) and multiple new series based around Marvel characters such as Loki, The Falcon, and the Winter Soldier.

All in all, Disney+ has plenty of content to attract everyone and is positioned at a price that most can easily afford.

If it continues on the current trajectory, it looks as though Disney+ could be poised to overtake all other streaming services as the main power player in the field.
