Margot Robbie is an actress best known for her portrayal of the psychotically cute villain, Harley Quinn, in the DC movie, Suicide Squad. In the movie, she starred opposite Jared Leto as the Joker, and alongside the likes of Will Smith (Deadshot), Jay Hernandez (Chato Santana), and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag).
The film was wildly successful in theaters, netting $746,846,894 in the worldwide box offices after releasing on August 5th, 2016. While the movie as a whole was beloved by fans new and old, no character stood out quite as much as Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn. The character was the “it” Halloween costume of not just 2016 but also 2017. Memes sprang up everywhere idolizing Quinn’s Stockholm Syndrome type dedication to the Joker… and Margot Robbie became a household name for millions of new audience members.
But some people had already fallen in love with Robbie before, as she has been acting in both her home country of Australia and in the United States since she reached adulthood in 2018. But how old is Margot Robbie, and what is she best known for outside of Suicide Squad? We have the answers.
How old is Margot Robbie?
Margot Robbie was born on July 2, 1990 in Dalby, Queensland, Australia to Scottish-born parents. This makes her 28 years old. Robbie grew up with three siblings in a rural community before moving to Melbourne in her late teens to pursue a career in acting. Here she landed her first role, as Donna Freedman in the long-running Australian soap opera, Neighbours. It was not long after her first role ended that Robbie decided to move to America to pursue an acting career in Hollywood.
‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ (2013)
Margot Robbie truly broke into the world of Hollywood when she starred as Naomi Lapaglia, the leading lady in The Wolf of Wall Street, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie tells the real life story of Jordan Belfort, who goes from a wealthy stock-broker to a criminal. The way that Robbie got that part was truly sensational – and pretty funny.
Robbie recalled the moment in an interview with Harper’s BAZAAR. “In my head I was like, ‘You have literally 30 seconds left in this room and if you don’t do something impressive nothing will ever come of it. ” The actress remembers that DiCaprio’s face was just inches from hers and she thought, for just a moment, about kissing him. Then, she goes on to say that “Another part of my brain clicks and I just go, Whack! I hit him in the face. And then I scream, ‘Fuck you!’ And that’s not in the script at all. The room just went dead silent and I froze.”
Of course, the fear that Robbie felt was not necessary, because after a moment of silence she remembers that “… all of a sudden Marty and Leo just burst out laughing. Marty says, ‘That was great!’ Leo’s like, ‘Hit me again!'”
‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’ (2016)
In Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Robbie (playing Tanya Vanderpoel) got to appear beside the comedic legend, Tina Fey (playing Kim Baker), in the starring role. The film tells the story of a journalist recounting her wartime coverage in Afghanistan, with a comedic twist.
One of the funniest scenes in the movie include Robbie talking to Fey about how hot she is, by stating that “In Afghanistan, you’re a series piece of ass.” Fey responds characteristically with “Thank you. Ohh, that’s nice.” Robbie goes further, “Because you’re what, I mean, you’re like, a seven, a six, seven in New York? Here, you’re a nine. Borderline ten. It’s called ‘Kabul Cute’.” Fey asks, “What are you here, like a 15?” Robbie hilariously agrees with a straight face.
