The first child William and his wife had was Prince George. It seems like just yesterday the announcement of his birth made international headlines and then before we knew it he was off to his first day of school. The young royal is growing up fast right in front of our eyes, so how old is the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s son today? Here’s the answer to that as well as how old his siblings
When was Prince George born?
Middleton gave birth to Prince George of Cambridge on July 22, 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
A press release was issued following the royal baby’s arrival as well as a statement across the Palace’s social media channels which read, “The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm. The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth … Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight.”
George is third in the line of succession to the British throne after His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge.
When were his siblings born?
George has two siblings, Princess Charlotte
George’s little sister, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, was born on May 2, 2015. She is fourth in the line of succession thanks to the Succession to the Crown Act which amended the system so that males no longer take precedence over their older sisters.
Does George know he’s going to be king?
Prince George doesn’t know he’s going to be king yet. William and Middleton have decided to delay telling him about his future this early so he can have as normal a childhood as possible.
“As far as we are concerned within our family unit, we are a normal family. I love my children in the same way any father does, and I hope George loves me the same way any son does to his father,” William has said. “We are very normal in that sense. There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in, in the world. But right now it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as father.”
Of course, by not telling him now the duke and duchess run the risk that one of his classmates at school could end up revealing it. But they are willing to take that chance since they feel this is best for their son.
