How Old Is Wendy Williams and Does She Have Any Kids?
National Radio Hall of Fame inductee, Wendy Williams, is well-known for her brazen on-air personality and take-no-prisoners approach to celebrity interviews. The self-proclaimed “Queen of All Media” currently hosts the Daytime Emmy-nominated Wendy Williams Show on the Fox network. Her public life is fairly apparent, but what you might not know is her precise age or whether she has any kids. Here’s what we found out:
The early years
Wendy Joan Williams was born in Asbury Park, New Jersey on July 18, 1964. When she was five years old, the Williams family packed up and moved to the unincorporated community of Wayside where she graduated from Ocean Township High School. In 1982, Williams enrolled at Boston’s Northeastern University where she worked as a college radio station DJ and also interned on Matt Siegel’s Kiss 108 morning show before receiving her communications degree in 1986.
After graduation, Williams moved to the US Virgin Islands in the Caribbean where she worked as a radio disk jockey at station WVIS in St. Croix. After about a year spinning records at the station, Williams moved stateside and landed the afternoon drive position at Washington, DC oldies station WOL. Williams deftly handled overnight shifts at WQHT before taking her talents to Philadelphia’s urban talk station WUSL Power 99 where her popular show zoomed the station’s rankings all the way from the 14th position in Arbitron ratings to the respectable No. 2 spot.
Brash and outspoken
The Wendy Williams Experience was not your everyday run of the mill talk show. Williams refused to coddle celebrity guests and famously went after singer Whitney Houston‘s drug habits in a compelling live interview. Afterward, an unrepentant Williams apologized to Houston. In a 2003 New York Times interview, Williams explained:
“My bark is worse than my bite. By being tall and outgoing, people mistake that for being overpowering, overbearing, loud and being a bully.”
After her on-air stint in Philly, Williams snagged a gig at WBLS in New York. Instead of spinning records, The Wendy Williams Experience gave the 5’10” New Jersey native a platform to talk about her personal life, touching on such private topics as her former drug addiction and difficulty in conceiving a child. When Debar-Mercury offered Williams a six-week TV trial of her popular radio talk show in 2008, she jumped at the chance and left broadcast radio behind.
Her first husband is a mystery
In William’s 2004 autobiography, Wendy’s Got the Heat, the brash talk jock barely mentioned her first husband, referring to him by the pseudonym as she briefly described marrying and divorcing early in her radio career.
Age and motherhood
On November 30, 1997 a 43-year old Williams wed Kevin Hunter who was and remains the executive producer of her TV show. Today, Wendy Williams is 53 years old. She and her husband have one child, a teenager named Kevin Hunter Jr. who was born on August 18, 2000.
Besides being a devoted wife and dedicated mother, Williams’ various projects include live stand up comedy performances, movie appearances, philanthropy, and clothing design. Oh, and she’s also penned a number of New York Times best selling books in her spare time. Her famously entertaining talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, has been extended to air at least through the 2020 season. Filmed in New York, The Wendy Williams Show is broadcast in more than 50 countries around the world. Signature segments of the popular talk show include “Say It Like You Mean It,” “Trendy at Wendy,” and “Hot Topics.”
