Shawn Mendes recently made his way into the headlines when he was chosen as a performer for the Grammys. Mendes shared the stage with other Grammy-nominated performers — Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Dan + Shay, Janelle Monáe, and Post Malone. Some performers received a single nomination while others had 4+. Mendes began his rise to fame on the social media platform Vine. The talented performer used the platform to expose the world to his talent by posting song covers to his profile. The star focused his energy into the app, building a pretty substantial following back in 2013.

Not even a full year after building a fan club on Vine Mendes caught the eye of an artist manager. Andrew Gertler and Ziggy Chareton were the ones responsible for getting Mendes to sign his first record deal. Not wasting a single moment, Mendes put out his first studio EP, The Shawn Mendes EP. The self-titled album was a precursor to his first studio album, Handwritten, which was released in 2015.

His self titled EP made peaked at No.5 on the Billboard 200 chart, a surprisingly good turnout for his first album. Despite the EP’s success, Handwritten isreally what boosted Mendes’ career. Stitches reached the No. 1 spot on Billboards airplay list. It also reached the top 10 in both the United Kingdom and Canada. If you consider topping the charts as the moment Mendes became famous, he was only 17 at the time! 

Shawn Mendes releases ‘Illuminate’

Illuminate hit the shelves in 2016. Two tracks on the album, Treat You Better and There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back climbed to the top 10 in several countries. In terms of the Billboard Charts, Treat You Better, and There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 100. It was also his second track to peak on both Adult Contemporary and Adult Pop Songs charts. There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back was the third. 

Due to his success, Mendes made history. He was the first artists in AC charts history at the time to have three No.1 hits before turning 20 years old. 

Shawn Mendes is crowned again for ‘In My Blood’

The pop star continues to make waves in the industry to this day. In 2018 he released Shawn Mendes, his third studio album. In My Blood quickly rose to the top spot on the Adult Pop charts, following the same pattern of his previous hit singles. Now he holds the title as the first and only artist in Billboard chart history to have four No.1 hits before turning 20 years old. The album, as well as the singles he released surrounding it, received critical appraise and many commented on his growth as a creative performer.  

The album also just happened to debut at number one in Canada, making it his third to rise in the ranks to the top slot in his home country. It also debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200. The result — Mendes is also the youngest artist to score three No.1 albums on the charts.
