How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Relationship With the Royal Family Changed Overnight

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been in the news a lot this past year for reportedly not having such a good relationship with a few other members of the royal family. Most notably, a lot of people believe that Markle was feuding with Kate Middleton while Prince Harry has been at odds with Prince William.

However, things seem to be even more tense in the royal family lately. After Prince Harry posted a statement on the internet about him and Markle suing the Mail On Sunday, the couple’s relationship with other royals could be worsening.

The royal family is reportedly ’embarrassed’ by Prince Harry’s lawsuit announcement

According to royal reporter Richard Palmer, who heard from “people with direct knowledge” about the happenings inside the palaces, the royal family is not happy with Prince Harry and Markle’s lawsuit. He also hints at the fact that they might have gone ahead with the lawsuit announcement without the permission of their aides.

“Nobody in the Royal Family or the Royal Household is supporting Harry and Meghan at the moment,” Palmer tweeted. “Even the couple’s aides seem embarrassed by their actions. William, who dropped his brother like a ton of hot bricks earlier this year, and Charles have distanced themselves.”

Palmer also added that “the Queen is unhappy about the behaviour of the Sussexes over the past months” and “they didn’t inform their family that Harry was going to release that inflammatory statement.”

Royal family members typically do not confront stories in the media

It’s possible that the royal family is not taking this lawsuit well because royals typically do not lash out at the press over negative news. They tend to stay quiet in the face of rumors and speculations, and the job of speaking to the media falls on their communications secretary.

Prince Harry coming out with a strong statement slamming a newspaper is not something that people see often.

It is also understandable that some royals would want to distance themselves from the Sussexes. For example, Prince William is a future king and is expected to follow royal protocol very strictly, which means that he cannot support rule-bending behavior from Prince Harry and Markle.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also have a tense relationship with the press

It is not just other royals who have become tense with Prince Harry and Markle. The media is also unsure of how to proceed with their coverage of the couple after the lawsuit announcement.

Peter Hunt, a former BBC royal correspondent, calls it “a sledgehammer to the symbiotic relationship once tolerated by the royals and the tabloids.”

Meanwhile, a reporter told Vanity Fair that their team “looked shell-shocked” when they heard of the news since no one could see it coming.

Prince Harry and Markle were on a tour of southern Africa when they decided to release the lawsuit announcement. Afterward, they continued to attend events as scheduled, though there was a lot of tension in the air between the couple and the reporters present.

A source said that the atmosphere surrounding their engagements was “awkward and uncomfortable.”

Before the lawsuit announcement, the Sussexes had been receiving positive press for their work in southern Africa. However, many onlookers feel as if they had managed to quickly undo all of that in just a few hours.

“This kind of litigation is easy to start, but nobody can predict the path it will take or the damage it may cause,” Princess Diana’s former secretary. Patrick Jephson, said to Vanity Fair. “If the Sussexes have a well-planned strategy it has got off to a strange start, trampling on the good news of a successful tour.”

Perhaps this is also why the royal family is worried about the lawsuit. It’s possible that Prince Harry and Markle attacking the press could lead to more negative stories about the Sussexes and other royals in the future.
