How Prince Harry Makes It Difficult to Get Photos of Meghan Markle

Duchess Meghan Markle is a photographer’s dream. The olive-skinned beauty’s stunning features and chestnut hair are what made her a standout on the beloved USA drama, Suits. Now that the former actress has stepped into royal life, it seems like the frenzy surrounding her is only getting started.

When Markle first appeared by Prince Harry’s side, photographers were desperate to capture her glamorous sense of fashion. The duchess is a master of mixing high-fashion and everyday pieces with the grace and elegance of her sister-in-law, Duchess Kate Middleton, and her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. Now that Markle has announced her pregnancy, photographers across the globe and royal fans are desperate for any sign of the Duchess of Sussex’s growing baby bump.

However, despite the growing number of photos that can be found on the internet of Markle, according to photographers — it’s a bit harder than you think to catch a photo of the glowing duchess. It looks like Prince Harry is the one who’s making it difficult for people to capture images of his wife.

A difficult job

Shutterstock’s royal photographer Tim Rooke who has been taking photographs of the royal family for 20 years, explained to InStyle that getting Markle alone in a photo is like capturing a unicorn. He explained, “Ms. Markle and Prince Harry are very much in love, in fact, it’s hard for me to capture a picture of them each alone because they always either locked in each other’s gazes or joined hands. We like to get fashion shots of what she’s wearing on these occasions, but they are often hard to get because she’s always holding Harry’s hand, making it difficult to get the full fashion shot without cropping out her arm.”

PDA overload

Many folks have remarked on the extensive PDA between the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex. There might have been a rather sultry public butt graze a well.  Rooke explained that the couple’s PDA is also a battle for photogs. He said, “I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to photograph Meghan yet. I’ve mostly only been able to capture her on big event pieces. That being said, I’ve not seen this much affection between two royals in my decades of shooting, Compared to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, they are much more affectionate in public which could be attributed to the different pressures placed on William as the next in line to become king.”

Safety first

The safety of his wife has always been of paramount concern for Prince Harry, which is also another reason why he’s constantly by her side. In 2016, when the pair were just dating, he released an unprecedented statement through Kensington Palace, requesting that the harassment of Markle be stopped. The statement read in part, “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is “the price she has to pay” and that “this is all part of the game.” He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it is her life and his.”

The prince has carried that sentiment into his marriage. In the final weeks of July, the duke and duchess quietly slipped away from the public eye.  Royal expert Katie Nicholl told Vanity Fair, “[Harry] worries there is too much hysteria around Meghan, and he wants to row back a bit.”

It’s clear that the former bad boy prince will always put the safety and comfort of his wife and child first, photographs be damned.
