On Aug. 31, 1997 —Princess Diana died tragically in a car crash in Paris. The entire world was devastated by the loss of the People’s Princess –but there were perhaps no people more greatly affected then Prince William and Prince Harry. Though the princes’ father –Prince Charles and their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II did their best to try and help the brothers through their trauma and grief –it would take many years before the wounds began to heal.
In recent years, both Prince Harry and Prince William have been candid about struggling with their mental health after the loss of their mother. They’ve also worked diligently at keeping her legacy alive. They’ve also talked openly about making sure their children know who Princess Diana was.

Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton have been very open about teaching their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis’ about their Granny Diana. They’ve explained to their littles that the princess would have “loved them to bits.” Now, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle will follow in the Cambridges’ footsteps.
In an interview, Prince William said, “I think constantly about Granny Diana. So we’ve got more photos up around the house now… it’s hard because Catherine didn’t know her, so cannot provide that level of detail.” As the little royals get older, they will learn more and more about their Granny Diana from the people who knew and adored her.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will teach Baby Sussex about Princess Diana, and they will also use some of the princess’ parenting techniques. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards told The Sun, “Prince Harry to a degree had a pretty normal upbringing. The Prince of Wales probably introduced him to Shakespeare and probably the Opera. But, Diana took them to McDonald’s and the cinema and took them to the arches to see homeless people to realize how much privilege they had.”
Since the Duchess of Sussex grew up as a normal civilian with her mother in Los Angeles –we’re sure she’d be down for this type of parenting.
How do Prince Harry and Prince William keep Princess Diana’s legacy alive?
Prince Harry and Prince William often talk about their mother and have celebrated her life and legacy by taking up charities and causes that were near and dear to their heart. Prince Harry told Good Morning America,
We will do everything we can to make sure that she’s never forgotten and carry on all of the special gifts, as such, that she portrayed while she was alive. I hope that my mother’s talents are shown in a lot of the work that I do I hope she’s looking down with tears in her eyes being incredibly proud of what we’ve established.
