How Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi Just Made History By Revealing Who Will Be His Best Man
Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are making history. At the end of May, the couple is set to tie the knot inside St. James’s Palace in The Chapel Royal before heading over to Buckingham Palace for the reception with Queen Elizabeth. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the big event, but Beatrice and her future husband just named their best man — and their decision is a first for the royal family.
Princess Beatrice gets engaged
Beatrice and Edoardo got engaged back in September while on a vacation in Italy. The pair kept their engagement quiet until they made the big announcement on social media.
The couple shared multiple engagement photos on social media to announce the exciting news, and quite a few members of the royal family congratulated them in turn. Buckingham Palace also released a quick statement, though officials did not reveal any details about a date or a location.
“The Duke and Duchess of York are delighted to announce the engagement of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of York to Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Her Royal Highness and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi became engaged while away for the weekend in Italy earlier this month. The wedding will take place in 2020. Further details will be announced in due course,” the statement read.
The Princess of York and her future husband later shared a statement on Twitter expressing their excitement about their coming nuptials. The pair revealed that they are very “happy to share the news of our recent engagement.”
They added that they cannot wait to start their new lives together and assured fans that they share loads of “similar interests and values.” They have since kept quiet about the wedding plans, though Buckingham Palace recently confirmed several details about the big day.
Buckingham Palace confirms wedding date
In February, palace officials released a statement confirming the date and location of Princess Beatrice’s wedding. She will officially tie the knot in a ceremony inside The Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace on May 29.
The statement also revealed that Queen Elizabeth agreed to host the reception at Buckingham Palace, though the event will be a private affair. This sadly means that we probably won’t see too many photos of the pair after the wedding is over.
“The wedding of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will take place on Friday 29th May 2020. The couple became engaged in Italy in September 2019. Her Majesty the Queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace. The ceremony will be followed by a private reception, given by the Queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace,” the palace confirmed.
Shortly after the announcement, the couple revealed that they have not asked for any wedding gifts from their guests. Instead, they have encouraged everyone to donate money to Cricket Brings Hope and Big Change, both of which help young people in Rwanda.
Speaking of their guests, the two have not released an official guest list for the wedding. Most members of the royal family, however, are expected to attend, including Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew, and mother, Sarah Ferguson.
Who will be the best man?
When it comes to the best man, quite a few names have been thrown into the mix. Nobody, however, predicted that the couple’s decision would actually make history in the royal family.
According to Hello Magazine, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo are going to have his son be the best man at their wedding. Edoardo’s son, Christopher, is three years old and goes by the nickname, Wolfie.
“I can confirm that Wolfie will be best man,” a spokesperson for the pair revealed.
If all goes according to plan, Wolfie will be the youngest best man in the history of royal weddings.
The couple decided to go with Wolfie because they reportedly wanted him to know that he is very important to Beatrice and the rest of the royal family. Edoardo, of course, had Wolfie in a previous relationship.
Everything we know about Princess Beatrice’s wedding
As far as the other wedding details are concerned, Beatrice and Edoardo have kept a tight lid on everything. But that has not stopped fans from trying to guess what her wedding gown will look like.
Beatrice has yet to name her wedding dress designer. It seems as though every royal wedding has a different designer, so there is no telling who Beatrice will pick. Kate Middleton, for example, went with Alexander McQueen, Meghan Markle hired Clare Waight Keller from Givenchy, and Princess Eugenie had Christopher De Vos and Peter Pilotto design her gown.
It is also unclear what the dress will look like, though it will probably feature elements that are special to Beatrice and Edoardo.
There has also been some speculation that Princess Beatrice will have a second gown for the reception, something that other members of the royal family have done in the past.
