How Shay Mitchell’s ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Co-Stars Congratulated Her On Her Daughter’s Birth
There’s a new pretty little liar in town, but she’s not ready to start talking just yet. Pretty Little Liars actress Shay Mitchell has welcomed her first child, a daughter, into the world. Here’s how her co-stars are congratulating her on the birth.
Shay Mitchell is best known for ‘Pretty Little Liars’
Mitchell’s big break came almost a decade ago when she began starring in the drama series Pretty Little Liars. Shay portrayed Emily Fields, a swimmer whose sexuality is a big deal at the start of the show. She, along with her friends, have bigger problems than meets and dates — they’re being cyberstalked.
The beloved show, which is based on the book series of the same name, ran for seven seasons and quickly made waves as the first truly social TV series of our time. A spinoff series, Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, then lasted for one season on Freeform (formerly ABC Family).
The actress has been documenting her pregnancy
It’s been years since PLL went off the air, and Mitchell has been working to continue her career. She starred in the first season of You, another mystery drama, which aired on Lifetime. A second season is in the works at Netflix, but Mitchell will not be a part of it.
Additionally, Mitchell has a lot going on in her personal life. This summer, she announced her pregnancy with long-time boyfriend Matte Babel. Mitchell then launched a YouTube series, Almost Ready, in which she documented the ups and downs of being pregnant.
What Mitchell’s ‘PLL’ co-stars said when she announced the birth
On Sunday, Oct. 20, Mitchell announced at long last that her first child, a girl, was here. She took to social media, sharing a photo of her holding her daughter’s hand, which she captioned, “Never letting go…” And her Pretty Little Liars co-stars were quick to comment.
Troian Bellisario, the only other of the “Liars” to have had a child, wrote, “Most beautiful babe and mother.” Sasha Pieterse, who played Emily’s love interest, Ali, wrote, “So happy for you!! Congratulations mama.” Janel Parrish, who played Mona, echoed this, writing, “Congrats beautiful mama!!!!!”
Who hasn’t spoken up?
In addition to the cast, the show’s creator, I. Marlene King, wrote a comment on Instagram, and RT’d Mitchell’s post on Twitter, writing, “Mazel Tov to you and Matte.” But at least two big names were missing from this list.
Mitchell’s co-stars Lucy Hale and Ashley Benson were not seen in the comments of the post. However, Benson and Mitchell are very close, and we can assume she sent a more personal message to the Buttah to her Benzo (nicknames they have for one another). As for Hale, she never seemed to be as close to her co-stars.
Here’s what Mitchell is working on now
While we can assume Mitchell is taking some well-deserved time off for now, she’s always kept herself very busy, so it probably won’t be too long before we see her again. There’s her Beis luggage brand, which recently celebrated one year in production.
Additionally, Mitchell has a new series, Dollface, launching on Hulu Nov. 15. And we’re hopeful that after some time settling in, her YouTube channel will continue to push out new content, baby-related or otherwise. Congrats to Mitchell!
