How This Emmy Win Is Another Sign ‘Joker’ Will Get Some Oscar Buzz
Fans are anxiously waiting for Joker, and some reviews are coming in that hint it could get some Oscar buzz. There is one person who won an Emmy that also worked on the movie. Find out who it is and what her win could mean for the thriller’s chances later in the award season.
Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir won for ‘Chernobyl’

Hildur Guðnadóttir won outstanding music composition for a limited series, movie, or special for her score for Chernobyl at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmys. The composition for Escape At Dannemora, Good Omens, True Detective, and When They See Us were also nominated.
Guðnadóttir talked about her approach to working on the HBO show. “There weren’t any traditional instruments used. I made instruments out of these sounds that I found,” she said on the podcast Behind the Screen. “I spend a lot of time recording room tones, the hums… …. My favorite solo ‘instrument’ of the score was a door leading to the engine room next to the pump room that had a symphony of sounds.”
The composer also worked on another project that is already getting buzz. This could be a sign of the upcoming award season.
Guðnadóttir worked on ‘Joker’
Joker tells the origin story of Arthur Fleck becoming the famous Batman villain. Guðnadóttir was the composer of the movie so her Emmy win could be a sign of what’s to come.
The thriller is already getting recognized with awards. It received the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, which is the top award at the festival.
Roma received this award last year then went on to win best foreign language film at the Academy Awards. Alfonso Cuarón also won two Oscars for directing and cinematography. The drama was released on Netflix, which made its chances at the award show unpredictable.
The comic book adaptation might take a few awards this year given the talent behind it and what it has already received.
The movie’s star was already nominated 3 times before
The other person to watch is Joaquin Phoenix, who plays the titular character. He dropped a lot of weight to play the villain and the award show has noticed his performances before.
Phoenix was previously nominated for his work in The Master, Walk the Line, and Gladiator. He hasn’t won but there might be a chance he’ll be nominated again.
He’s not the only one in the cast to watch. Robert De Niro plays Murray Franklin in the movie, and it’s been reported that Phoenix based some of his performance on De Niro’s character from Taxi Driver.
Todd Phillips has talked about what it was like making a movie focusing on the Joker. “Well it’s challenging but we took an approach where he wasn’t a villain at least in the beginning,” he said at the Toronto Film Festival “and the idea was what happens when you make an origin story about a villain where the villain’s the hero and you feel for him, and you root for him until can’t root for him any longer?”
It looks there are multiple signs the movie will get nominated for something this year.
