How to Change the Order of Your List on Netflix

If you’re like most Netflix subscribers, your list is absolutely packed with movies and TV shows, some of which have been on there waiting for you to watch them for years now. But the ordering is probably pretty random; wouldn’t it be nice if you could customize this so that there was a bit more of a rhyme or reason to it?

Luckily, you can, although Netflix doesn’t exactly publicize this option very well. To do so, you’ll need to be on the Netflix website, not the app.

Once you’re logged in, mouse over your account profile in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Then, hit “Account,” and scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you’ll see the option “Order in My List.”

From there, you’ll likely see that Netflix has automatically selected the option of “Netflix Suggests.” You’ll want to change that to “Manual Ordering.” This will give you the ability to put your list in whatever order you please. Check off that option and hit save.

Now, just head back to My List, and you’ll notice that it looks completely different. The order will still be the same, but now, everything is displayed in one column. If you mouse over a title, you can then click and drag it to wherever you want it to be on the list.

Additionally, if you mouse over any title that isn’t already at the top of the list, you can hit the arrow that appears on the right side of the screen with the words “Move to the Top” next to it.

Now that this feature has been unlocked, you have total control over what order your list appears in, which gives you a lot of options. You could rearrange it in terms of priority, as┬áthe most recent addition may not necessarily be the thing you want to watch next; maybe there’s something towards the bottom that you’re finally hoping to get to later, and you can bump that to the top of the list.

Another option would be the arrange the list so that all of the movies are grouped together and the television shows are grouped separately. After all, when you’re in the mood to watch a TV show, it can be a pain to sort through all of the movies on your list to get to the series you’ve saved, although this can also be avoided by going into the movies or TV sections and viewing your list from there; doing so will filter out the other content.

There’s currently no way to rearrange your list within the Netflix app. However, once you’ve rearranged it on the website, that new order will show up on the app pretty soon after. In fact, you don’t even need to close the app for the changes to go into effect; you can have My List pulled up on your app, and after you reorder it on the website, the page will refresh with the new order within 15 seconds or so.

Outside of this ability to reorder your list, there are tons of features on Netflix that aren’t totally obvious, including a whole bunch of hidden categories. You can read more about how to unlock those categories here.
