Pre-orders for the SNES Classic Edition unexpectedly went up in the middle of the night on Tuesday and sold out almost instantly. But thankfully, there will still be some additional ways to pre-order the system.
The pre-orders went up on Tuesday on Amazon and Best Buy, and it’s through these retailers that the SNES Classic Edition sold out. However, the official Nintendo website makes clear that the SNES Classic Edition will also be available to pre-order from GameStop, Target, Toys “R” Us, and Walmart.
None of those retailers are currently offering pre-orders of the system, and so those are the four stores you’ll want to keep an eye on in the coming days. The Nintendo website certainly suggests that the pre-orders will launch at those locations pretty soon, as it notes that players can “[p]re-order now from these retailers.”
According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, GameStop told its employees to expect a “special announcement” later today, which presumably has something to do with SNES Classic. With that in mind, it’s probably a good idea to stay tuned to Twitter in the coming hours, as you’ll have to pounce the moment GameStop announces the pre-orders are available. As with Amazon and Best Buy, they will likely sell out in minutes.

Nintendo announced the SNES Classic Edition back in June. It doesn’t come out until September, but considering the limited availability of the NES Classic Edition, there has been massive interest in pre-ordering the system. In July, the SNES Classic was made available for pre-order in the United States for the first time via Walmart, but it later turned out that this was a glitch, and those pre-orders were canceled. Nintendo subsequently said that the system could be pre-ordered by the end of August.
Then, on August 22nd, Amazon and Best Buy began offering SNES Classic Edition pre-orders, but they did so in the middle of the night, leading to widespread frustration among gamers who woke up having missed their opportunity.

Honestly pissed, BestBuy never sent me an alert that the SNES was on preorder, already see listings for it on Ebay three times the price.

Luckily for them, more opportunities will be coming soon via GameStop, Target, Toys “R” Us, and Walmart. The SNES Classic Edition will officially launch on September 29th.
