How to Watch ‘Orange Is the New Black’
The time has (almost) come. On July 26, Netflix will release the seventh and final season of its hit series Orange Is the New Black — and if you’ve seen the trailer that dropped back in June, you know it’s gonna be crazy.
Some of your favorite characters are finally free while others continue to suffer through the rigamarole of prison life at Litchfield Penitentiary. There are feuds, adventures, new friendships, romantic relationships, and a lot more that you won’t want to miss. So how can you watch Orange Is the New Black? Here’s what to know.
OITNB will be available on Netflix
As we said, the show is a Netflix production, so you’ll need to have a subscription in order to watch.
Netflix offers customers three plans: basic, standard, and premium. The basic plan costs just $8.99 per month, but only allows one person to access the account. So if you plan on sharing your Netflix with someone, you might want to upgrade. In that case, there’s the standard plan, which allows up to two people to access the account for just four more bucks. And if that’s still not enough, try the premium plan. That one allows four people on the account for $15.99.
If you’re on the fence about signing up, don’t fret. Netflix offers potential customers a free 30-day trial. The company will even email you a reminder three days before your trial ends, so you have time to decide whether you want to keep your subscription. It doesn’t get much sweeter than that.
You can sign up here, and then prepare to get your binge on.
OITNB is going out with a bang
Season 7 seemingly centers around Piper Chapman’s release from prison and her transition back into society. The trailer shows Chapman (Taylor Schilling) making copies in an office, meeting with a probation officer for drug tests, and struggling to make friends.
Meanwhile, back at Litchfield, the inmates are still dealing with the prison riot, recent verdicts, and general life in the prison. Even Chapman’s wife, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), appears to be going through something. The trailer shows her crying in the middle of a visit with Chapman. Between sobs, Vause tells her wife that it’s “good” to see her.
Why is OITNB ending?
At this point, it seems like the crew and cast members are ready to move on. “After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison,” show creator Jenji Kohan said in an October 2018 statement (via Deadline).
“It just felt like the right time,” actress Beth Dover, who plays the controversial Linda Ferguson, added to PopCulture.com on July 16.
“I think Jenji always wanted seven seasons. You wrap it up in seven, and as much as I’d love to keep doing this forever and ever, it just felt like the right time to do it,” Dover explained.
There could be a spin-off
We know it’s gonna be tough to say goodbye to the ladies of Litchfield. But before you get all in your feels, there’s something you should know. Lionsgate is reportedly considering a spinoff series for the hit show.
“We’re really proud of the long run that [the show] had,” Lionsgate TV Group chairman Kevin Beggs told The Hollywood Reporter in November. “It remains one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. We’re ending on a high note. Keep in mind we own that series and will be distributing it for years to come. We’re already in discussions and, when the timing is right, we’ll talk further with Jenji about a potential sequel.”
We’ll keep you posted on spin-off updates but, for now, get ready for OITNB Season 7. Remember it drops on Friday, July 26, so start grabbing your popcorn (and tissues).
