Wendy Williams has been through a lot this year. However, through it all, she’s kept her head held high, despite the difficulties that come with drug addiction and divorce. Williams announced earlier this year that she’d been living in a sober house, and right around the same time, she announced her split from longtime husband Kevin Hunter. It came out that Hunter had fathered a child with his mistress — but how did Williams find out about it?
Williams had known about Hunter’s affairs in the past
Williams and Hunter met while ice skating back in 1994. They dated for three years before tying the knot in 1997, and they welcomed their son in 2000. However, Williams only had peace of mind during the first few years of their marriage — about a month after Kevin Jr. was born, Williams overheard Hunter on a phone call with another woman. She recalled quietly listening to his phone conversation, and it was the first time she learned he was cheating. Williams eventually forgave Hunter, but in 2008, allegations of sexual harassment popped up from someone who formerly worked for Williams’ radio show.
She hired a private investigator to learn that he’d fathered a child
Unfortunately, the cheating rumors didn’t stop for the majority of the couple’s marriage. In 2017, stories surfaced that Hunter had been in a 10-year relationship with a massage therapist; Williams said on her show that she would “stand by” her man, despite the rumors. However, she clearly had skepticisms of her own. A source close to Williams told People in April 2019 that Williams had hired a private investigator to dig into Hunter’s life. That’s how she learned that he’d been having the affair — and was expecting a child with his mistress. “Wendy had hired a private investigator and confronted him. He confessed to everything three weeks ago,” the source said.
Earlier this year, Williams also announced she’d been living in a sober house
Williams has been through the ringer this year. In addition to the divorce, Williams announced a bit earlier that she had been living in a sober house. In the past, she’s been open about her cocaine addiction and informed fans that she had a 24-hour sober coach. After the news of her divorce broke, it was reported that Williams had left the sober house and is now living on her own in New York City. She seems to be handling the divorce and her sobriety well.
She has continued to stand tall amid her struggles
Despite everything going on in her life, Williams has continued to stand tall. She’s been present for her show and has put on a happy face and positive attitude for her fans. She’s made appearances on other talk shows and seems to be handling things well; she recently revealed that she has been on a few dates. The former couple also put their massive New Jersey home on the market in the spring, so it looks like Williams is looking forward to a fresh start.
