How Will ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Affect ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’?

Agents of SHIELD has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 2013. It was in some ways like the runt of a litter, slowly growing until other moves in the MCU were made. Once Captain America: Winter Soldier hit theaters, the writers were able to introduce a considerable shift into the show. One that impacted the depth of the characters, enemies, and turned the episodic adventure into one with an overarching plot that would draw viewers in time and time again.

The move helped solidify the connection between the show and the big box office hits that were bringing masses to the theaters. With the finale of The Avengers right around the corner, fans can’t help but wonder what impact it will have on their beloved series.

What is ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’?

Clark Gregg reprises his role as Phil Coulson from The Avengers and Iron Man in this wildly popular ABC series. The show follows Coulson as he leads an elite team of agents as a part of the worldwide law enforcement agency SHIELD. For you anagram lovers out there, SHIELD stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division.

The group investigates all matters of weirdness around the world which makes for some pretty interesting adventures. As the protectors of the innocent, they find themselves facing all kinds of threats. Of course, Marvel’s iconic enemy crew Hydra is a constant concern.

Season 5 of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D left fans shook

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will be back in less than a month after being off the air since the appropriated titled episode, The End, which aired on May 18th, 2018. The show left off with the SHIELD team trying to make a tough decision, one that could easily be responsible for the destruction of Earth. It was one hell of a finale.

Fitz, played by Iain De Caestecker both died and disappeared in space and Agent Coulson was on the way to Tahiti, complacent about his imminent death. It was an emotional rollercoaster of an episode, especially since Coulson was already taken out in The Avengers before being brought back in the series, a move that sent a sigh of relief through MCU fans everywhere.

It looks like season six has some more surprises in store, ones that will leave fans a little relieved, and extremely perplexed.

How does ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’ connect?

Marvel recently released a trailer for the upcoming sixth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. As the MCU is vast and the series intertwines beautifully with the movies, fans have been doing their best to search for spoilers for Endgame in the trailer. Considering The Avengers finale comes out first, it’s very possible that Marvel slipped up or purposely planted some easter eggs for watchful fans.

BGR’s Chris Smith located some possible spoilers after a careful watch of the trailer. The first occurs when a semi bolts through matching black SUVs with the SHIELD insignia. What’s strange about that? SHIELD has been an undercover operation since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they wouldn’t be flashing their logo unless something occurred in Endgame. Perhaps the enforcement agency finds itself completely reinstated!

Considering Avengers: Infinity War didn’t specify who Nick Fury and Maria Hill are employed by, and the two were caught driving a black SUV in the post-credit scenes of the movie — it’s definitely something to consider.

The second potential spoiler occurs at the very end of the trailer. Coulson appears to be very much alive, not dead like the initial scene of the trailer leads viewers to believe. How is the leader of SHIELD still alive and kicking? Maybe the events in Endgame have something to do with it. Fans will have to wait and see if any of the “conspiracy theories” end up being right!
