How Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith Feel About Willow Wanting to be in a Throuple
Navigating relationships is completely different now than it used to be. Whereas in previous years, monogamy was one of the only acceptable options for relationships, now more people are embracing polygamy and polyamory.
Recently, Jada Pinkett Smith had a throuple (three people in a relationship) on Red Table Talk to talk about the intricacies of nonmonogamous relationships, and during the conversation, her daughter Willow Smith really opened up.
Willow’s views on monogamy
While talking to the throuple, Willow admitted to being interested in being in a nontraditional relationship.
“I love men and women equally and so I would definitely want one man, one woman,” she said on the show after being asked about gender in a throuple. “I feel like I could be polyfidelitous with those two people.”
“I’m not the kind of person that is constantly looking for new sexual experiences,” she continued. “I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of the different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don’t feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more.”
For Willow, the pressures of monogamy are something to overcome, rather than an ideology to be embraced.
“This is the scariest thought that people shy away from,” she continued. “It’s the feeling of feeling like the person that you love is falling in love with somebody else. And that insecurity and fear just eats us alive. But that insecurity and fear is something that we need to overcome and something that we need to evolve out of and transmute that into something new and different that can actually be helpful and make us love more and more freely.”
How do Jada and Will Smith feel about Willow wanting to be in a throuple?
Willow was obviously not ashamed of wanting to be in a nontraditional relationship, as she said all of this in front of her mother and grandmother.
But apparently, both Will and Jada are very supportive of Willow’s sexuality.
“You’ve got to live who you’re not to know who you are,” Jada said on the show of Willow exploring what she wants.
She even related her own relationship to a throuple.
“I’ve had a non-sexual throuple for years with Sheree,” she continued, referring to Will Smith’s ex-wife, Sheree Zampino. “When you have your husband who is taking care of another woman and spending time with another woman, it’s the same thing.”
But no matter what Willow decides to do, Jada and Will plan to be supportive.
“Will and Jada are extremely proud of both their children and want nothing more than for them to live their life the way they want to live it,” a source close to the family told HollywoodLife. “They were well aware that Willow felt this way about relationships, but are very proud that she shared her views with the world. It’s important for them all that people can hear these things so if anyone is struggling with the way the want to live their life maybe they can look to Willow as a role model.”
In fact, the whole reason Jada brought the throuple on the show was because it was something that Willow was interested in.
“Here’s the thing, it’s a throuple that Willow was actually following on Instagram,” Jada said on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. “That’s how it all came to be. She became very curious about this polyamory thing.”
