If Gwen Stefani Had Not Come Back for Season 2 of ‘The Voice,’ Her Relationship With Blake Shelton May Not Have Happened
Gwen Stefani’s romance with Blake Shelton is still going strong four years in, though there was a time when the No Doubt frontwoman almost put their future relationship at risk. Stefani is competing with the country crooner on the current season of The Voice, which is where their romance initially blossomed. But if she hadn’t returned to the show in her second season, then there is a chance their romance would have never happened.
Shelton opens up about his love story
In a new interview, Shelton admitted that his relationship with Stefani was more surprising than being voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive.
“If you thought the PEOPLE magazine cover was shocking, mine and Gwen’s relationship is probably the biggest head-scratcher,” Shelton revealed.
After winning the annual title, Shelton joked that the magazine must be running out of options. He also revealed that Stefani was the one who convinced him to gracefully accept the title.
While their romance is stronger than ever, Shelton acknowledged that he hardly got to know Stefani during her first season on The Voice.
At the time, Stefani had just had a baby and spent the majority of her time between takes caring for her little one. She was also happily married to Gavin Rossdale and did not spend a lot of time chatting with her co-stars.
That all changed, of course, when Stefani returned to the hit singing competition the next year.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton were both coming from fresh divorces and immediately bonded over their shared heartbreak.
In the summer of 2015, Stefani parted ways with Rossdale. The divorce happened a month after Shelton and Miranda Lambert called it quits.
According to People, Shelton admitted that looking back, he believes everything they went through happened for a reason. He also acknowledged that things could have turned out much different if Stefani hadn’t come back for another season.
“And it’s one of those things that, who knows?” Shelton mused. “It had to have been meant to be.”
Inside Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s close bond
Although they have been dating for four years, Shelton admitted that he is still starstruck whenever he sees Stefani perform in Las Vegas. He also confessed that prior to their relationship he hadn’t really listened to any of No Doubt’s albums. He knew the band’s major hits but was unaware of the extent of their success.
As far as Stefani is concerned, Shelton revealed that she has opened up to country music now that she’s dating him. While she cannot remember everyone’s names, Stefani can recognize a lot more country songs than she used to — which is a huge step for her.
In fact, Shelton guessed that Stefani probably listens to country music around 75 percent of the time.
Based on his interview, it’s clear that Shelton considers himself a very lucky man. But how does Stefani feel about dating someone who is her polar opposite?
Not only does Stefani rock out to country in her car, but she also listens to it with her children, who have grown to adore Blake Shelton. It should be noted that Stefani has yet to confirm her newfound love for country music.
Gwen Stefani opens up about her unlikely romance
Stefani’s return to The Voice this season has offered fans a closer look at the dynamics between her and Shelton, who are often caught sparring on the set. In a recent episode, for example, Stefani attempted to explain why her relationship with Shelton works, despite the fact that they have little in common.
Stefani revealed that she and Shelton share a chemistry that, on the surface, should not work. But for whatever reason they are perfect together, and their contrasting styles compliment instead of work against each other.
While Stefani is clearly enamored by Shelton, she isn’t holding back any punches on the show. In fact, things have already gotten heated between the couple this season, and we’re positive Stefani would do just about anything to beat Shelton.
And to think, there was a time when these two hardly even knew each other. Go figure.
Now if we could only get them to perform some more duets then we’d really be going somewhere.
Fans can watch Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani go head-to-head when new episodes of The Voice air Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
