If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Skip Beatrice’s Wedding It Will Be a ‘Tremendous Snub’ to the Royal Family
Princess Beatrice’s upcoming wedding could be the event that turns things around for the royal family, yet there is a chance that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle don’t attend the ceremony. Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, are officially stepping down as acting members of the royal family on March 31. With Beatrice’s wedding slated for the end of May, royal experts believe the Sussexes might skip out, a move that would be a “tremendous snub” to the entire royal family.
Princess Beatrice set to tie the knot
Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi proposed to Beatrice when the couple was on vacation in Italy this past fall. The two announced their engagement by sharing photos on social media, though the royal family kept the wedding details to a bare minimum.
That all changed in February when Buckingham Palace confirmed that the two are going to exchange vows on May 29 inside St. James’s Palace. After the ceremony is over, the wedding party will head to Buckingham Palace for a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth.
The royals have not released any more information about the big day, but royal expert Angela Mollard claims that Queen Elizabeth is planning on having the reception outdoors, in a tent.
“The reception is going to be at Buckingham Palace but not actually in the palace. It’s a posh tent,” Mollard shared. “I was thinking about the toilet situation. It’s May, Britain rains all the time, May’s likely to rain as it’s spring.”
Mollard added that the decision to host the reception outside of the palace is probably to prevent members of the media from snapping photos inside Buckingham Palace. The royals have been through a lot lately and keeping Beatrice’s wedding low-key will help to avoid any further scandals.
Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle come to the wedding?
With details pretty scant, nobody knows who will be invited to Beatrice’s wedding. The venue inside St. James’s Palace is also fairly small for a royal wedding, so the guest list will likely be limited.
That said, there is little doubt that Harry and Markle will get invited to the ceremony. After all, they invited Beatrice to their wedding in 2018 and she did not disappoint.
But in light of their decision to step away from the royal spotlight, there is a good chance that Prince Harry and Markle decline the invitation in favor of some more alone time.
According to Express, Mollard believes Harry and Markle will avoid the wedding because of their desire to stay out of the public eye. But if that happens, Mollard believes it would be a “tremendous snub” to Harry’s family.
“It will be interesting to see if they come back for that,” Mollard stated. “If they don’t come back for Beatrice’s wedding I think it will be the most tremendous stink. It will just be seen as an absolutely massive snub to the Royal Family and would suggest that they absolutely put their own needs ahead of other royalty.”
Prince Harry and Markle are currently living in Canada. As part of their exit, they plan on spending the majority of their time in North America, though a permanent destination has yet to be revealed.
Did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take a shot at Princess Beatrice?
While we wait to see if Prince Harry and Markle attend the wedding, they recently took a dig at Beatrice on their website.
In an attempt to explain how they are no longer using their royal titles, the couple seemed to complain about how other members of the royal family hold jobs in the professional world but are still allowed to use their HRH styles.
“While there is precedent for other titled members of the Royal Family to seek employment outside of the institution, for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a 12-month review period has been put in place,” they explained.
Sources believe that the statement was a clear reference to Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, both of whom have careers outside of the monarchy. Beatrice works at a tech firm while Eugenie is the director of an art gallery.
The statement also comes after Queen Elizabeth confirmed that Prince Harry and Markle will not be allowed to use their royal titles until they return to the royal family. This includes work with their charitable organization, Sussex Royal.
Who will be Princess Beatrice’s pageboys and bridesmaids?
At this point, there is no telling what Prince Harry and Markle have planned for the end of May. But if they do decide on making an appearance at the wedding, there is a good chance that their son, Archie Harrison, will be a pageboy.
Archie is set to turn one at the beginning of May and is a leading choice for Beatrice and Mozzi. Other likely candidates for pageboys and flower girls include Christopher Woolf, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Beatrice has yet to announce an official guest list for her wedding — but we can only assume that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the cut.
