When it comes to speaking her mind, Iggy Azalea does not hold back. Whether she’s defending her music or venting about the entertainment industry, she speaks her truth.
Most recently, she shared her opinion on some comments that her old mentor, rapper T.I., made — and it was not pretty.
How did Iggy Azalea and T.I.’s feud begin?
This all started after T.I. said at a recent promotional event for Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow that he regretted signing the problematic rapper to his label, Grand Hustle, in 2012.
“I’m still actively looking for another female rapper who can undo the blunder of Iggy Azalea,” T.I. explained (via The Root). “That is the tarnish of my legacy as far as [being] an [music] executive is concerned. To me, this is like when Michael Jordan went to play baseball.”
On Oct. 10, the “Fancy” rapper fired back at her former mentor, writing in a since-deleted tweet, “Imagine thinking I was [T.I.’s] biggest blunder. Tip. Sweetie. We have a whole list for you.”
The rappers ended their business relationship in 2015 around the same time that Azalea, a white Australian who raps with a Southern drawl, became engulfed in accusations of cultural appropriation.
Iggy Azalea and T.I.’s feud just escalated
Things got even more heated when T.I. appeared on The Breakfast Club on Oct. 28 and opened up about the Azalea “blunder.”
The “Whatever You Like” rapper laid out his problems with Azalea, notably claiming that she “switched up” when “she found out white people liked her.”
“As far as I’m concerned, I feel like when she found out white people liked her and she didn’t really need Black people to like her anymore, she switched up, started acting different [and] made moves that I wasn’t proud of that kind of placed my reputation in the line of fire. And she was very arrogant about it,” he said.
Iggy Azalea’s response to T.I.
Azalea clapped back at T.I. in a series of now-deleted tweets, writing that he was not as instrumental in her success and career as he thinks.
“When will this guy shut up. The only song you ever were a part of making was ‘100.’ Thankyou for that, but you were NOT a part of the creative OR executive process on that album,” she wrote. “Which is why I’ve always taken issue with you trying to approximate yourself with it’s success.”
Azalea continued, “Seeing a man speaking out of his a**hole and blurting out one thing in public and another in private for years is really infuriating. Keep it pushing sweetie & worry about what your next story line is for family hustle,” she continued, referencing T.I.’s VH1 series.
“Please move on and speak about artist you are (hopefully) actually helping, and stop trying to bring me up for relevance,” she added. “I don’t bring your a** up, NO ONE is asking about you. I’m tryna be nice because I genuinely have better and more interesting things happening…”
Oof. As of writing, T.I. has not commented on the remarks. But it seems like it’s only a matter of time before he does. Stay tuned.
