Iggy Azalea Responds to Topless Photo Leak, Plans to Press Charges
Iggy Azalea is speaking out about the topless photos from a 2016 GQ Australia photo shoot that leaked online, sharing how “surprised and angry” she is that about the nude photo leak. She plans to press charges and take a break from social media following a flood of negativity directed at her.
Azalea responds to the leak, deletes her social media accounts
After the topless photos of the rapper made their way online, Azalea spoke out with a statement to explain the situation and why she feels “blindsided embarrassed, violated, angry, sad” about the images leaking but also by the vile things people have been saying about her.
The rapper deactivated her Twitter and Instagram accounts, then shared her thoughts in a lengthy statement, beginning with some background information about where the photos originated:
“Recently some outtakes from my 2016 GQ magazine cover were leaked to the public. A lot of high profile women have shot covers for GQ with a strategically placed hand etc covering their breasts etc. I always felt they were very beautiful covers, so I jumped at the opportunity.”
She continued: “I hadn’t seen other women’s covers leak so I felt comfortable (on a closed set) to model for such a reputable magazine knowing only the images with my hands covering would be considered for print. I never consented to taking topless pictures for potential release, period. It was my understanding BEFORE shooting, GQ do not print topless pictures.”
She was left ‘surprised and angry’ about the leak
Azalea continued her statement, explaining: “There was no reason for anyone to have kept the outtakes from the shoot. I’m surprised and angry that they were not immediately deleted after the final images were selected.”
She went on to note that she’s “a ball of negative emotions,” sharing that she feels “blindsided embarrassed, violated, angry, sad, and a million other things. Not solely because I didn’t consent to this — but also because of the vile way people have reacted.”
She went on to explain that “A lot of the comments I see from men in particular taking things even further and sharing their thoughts and fantasies in regards to my body had honestly disturbed me. The outright wicked things people say is overwhelming & makes me feel like throwing up.”
Azalea wants to press charges
Understandably, the rapper is upset by the photos leaking and the way she’s been attacked, noting that the humiliation is “like a nuclear bomb that explodes and not only destroys you emotionally, but leaves a path of destruction in your personal life.”
She shared that she will be pressing charges, noting, “I fully intend on finding out where the leak originated from and pressing criminal charges… it’s important to me that someone actually be held accountable for their actions & the way it impacts my life.”
The rapper concluded her statement by explaining that she doesn’t feel she has a place she “can retreat to” where she can “wait in until it all blows over.”
She added: “I have seen some really vicious s**t written in the last 24 hours and it is too much negativity for me to handle. For now it’s best to keep my accounts deactivated. Please be kinder to one another.”
