Is Archie Keeping Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on Their Toes More Than Expected?

Parenthood is hard work. Any mother or father can tell you that having a new baby is one of the most difficult times in life- but also one of the most precious. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to Africa has become a great opportunity for them to share their struggles, and their joy, over little Archie with the public. They’ve given royal fans some great insights into their new life as parents, which many can relate to.

Like any new parent, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are busy adjusting to life with a baby. Although they occasionally have help from nannies, they’ve been very open about their struggles. Prince Harry laughed about his lack of sleep during a trip to Amsterdam earlier this month. Traveling away from home for the event offered the prince an opportunity to catch up on some sleep.

“Having spent last night here, I don’t know about you guys, but it was definitely the best night’s sleep I’ve had in the last four months,” he said, according to US Weekly

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are reportedly very hands-on parents. They did hire a night nurse when Archie was a newborn, but she is no longer employed. In fact, the couple is currently on their third nanny since Archie’s birth. According to the International Business Times, the nanny helps care for Archie during the weekdays but is off in the evenings and weekends so that Prince Harry and Markle can take over parenting.

However, during their trip to Africa, the nanny will take on a bigger role. Archie won’t be able to follow his parents on every stop of the trip because of vaccination requirements. Instead, he will stay in a central location with the nanny, while Prince Harry and Markle complete their visits.

Despite the help, Markle feels that life has become very busy since Archie’s arrival. During a visit to the South African neighborhood of Bo-Kaap, she mentioned this to the locals.

“Our plate is full with a five-month-old at the moment,” she said. “It’s so busy!”

Does Baby Archie have a wild streak?

Some have wondered if Archie may have inherited a wild streak from his parents. When Prince Harry was young, he was often considered the black sheep of the family because of several embarrassing incidents. For example: At the age of 17, Harry was caught smoking marijuana a few times and sent to rehab

“We acknowledge that on several occasions last Summer, Prince Harry experimented with cannabis. It is not that he had or has a serious problem, but he did take the drug,” a senior palace official said in a statement regarding the matter. “Prince Harry did attend Featherstone Lodge for a day to learn about the possible consequences of starting to take cannabis. The Prince of Wales thought it would be educational and shocking for him to attend.”

Probably the most famous instance of Prince Harry’s bad behavior was his choice of costume at the age of 20. Photos of the prince dressed as a Nazi officer shocked the world and forced him to release an apology

“I am very sorry if I caused any offense or embarrassment to anyone. It was a poor choice of costume and I apologize,” he said.

Markle was also a bit of wild child during her day. Rumors of her hard-partying ways as a sorority girl at Northwestern University have alleged that she even had a fake ID to go clubbing before she turned 21.

With those kinds of genes, is Archie destined to give his parents a run for their money?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are doing great with Archie

Despite the normal troubles that all new parents deal with, the Sussexes claim that everything is “wonderful” with Archie. While on tour in Africa, they’ve been gushing about their new family life. A source for Hello Magazine, who spoke with Markle during one of her visits, said the duchess thought her “transition to motherhood” has been “easy.”

“He’s just really, really happy and an easy traveler,” Markle said of her son.

Those who’ve met the duke and duchess have been eager to see or hear about Archie, and the couple hopes showing him off in Africa could help heal some of the troubles they’ve had with public perception. And it’s very possible that could happen. Archie is a lucky child to have the love of his parents, but also the love of the British people.
