Is ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Really the Last Avengers Movie?

Saying goodbye is never easy. The upcoming release of Avengers: Endgame marks the end of the series. As such, many people are scrambling to make sure they get one last opportunity to see their favorite heroes together. But like the old saying says, “sometimes the end is just the beginning.” Is Avengers: Endgame really the last Avengers movie, or will fans get to see their friends again?

The release of ‘Endgame’ is only weeks away

Endgame will be released worldwide on April 26. To some, this date marks the day they will head to the movies to see if the movie is really as great as they have hoped it would be. To others, it is the day they start turning off their devices, doing all that they can to stay away from any spoilers that are sure to be released by those lucky enough to see the movie when it first came out.

There are high expectations for Endgame. The movie clocks in at over 3 hours long, making it the longest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie ever. It has a bigger budget than any Marvel movie before it and the movie’s stars have promised that the finale will live up to the hype.

‘Avengers: Endgame’ will be the end (for some)

The creators of the MCU knew that the franchise would include a large number of movies. Knowing this, they signed actors onto multi-movie contracts, often at six to nine movies apiece. Sadly, for a few of the characters in the Marvel universe, their time is up.

Chris Evans, aka Captain America, recently revealed that his contract will expire with the release of Endgame. Not only is his contract up, but Evans also revealed that it’s the end for Tony Stark as well (Robert Downey Jr.). Fans have been petitioning for Downey to renew his contract, but whether that will happen remains to be seen. Of his role as Iron Man, the actor once said: “I just never want to blow it for the last six or seven [Marvel movies] I have done by dropping the ball because I decided to go do it one more time. I just want to hang up my jersey before it’s embarrassing.”

Is ‘Avengers: Endgame’ really the last Avengers movie?

Endgame likely marks the last time (at least for a while) that we will see all the Avengers together. It is also probably the last time we will see some of our favorite actors suit up in their iconic roles. But there is plenty more life left in the Marvel universe.

The stage is set for phase four of the MCU franchise with several movies already on deck. The first movie set to be released is Spider-man: Far From Home. It has been confirmed that there will be a tie in from the events that happened in Avengers: Endgame. Spider-man: Far From Home will be released July 5, 2019, so fans don’t have to wait long to see the story continue.

Outside of Spider-Man, there are several upcoming movies that fans can be excited for. Guardians of the Galaxy fans recently got a very early Christmas present. Disney announced that they have re-hired director James Gunn. The fate of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 had previously been uncertain, but this news confirms that fans will get to see the long-awaited movie.

It was once thought that Black Widow would be the first to have a female-led MCU movie. But as we saw, that honor just went to Captain Marvel. But a Black Widow movie is currently in the works, so fans of Scarlett Johansson’s character will soon get to see a closer look at this veteran Marvel character.

Is it the end? In a way. But it is also the beginning. The beginning to a new phase, new stories, and possibly new actors playing old characters. The future is uncertain, but with the track record that MCU has, it is certain to be an entertaining one.
