Is Collin Gosselin the Only ‘Troubled’ Child of Jon and Kate Gosselin?

We’ve been watching Jon and Kate Gosselin since their hit TV series, Jon & Kate Plus 8, first aired over a decade ago. While the couple appeared like they had it all together in the beginning with their set of sextuplets and twins, everything unraveled quickly once news of a divorce broke. Now, many years later, we’re still wondering what the Gosselins are up to — and we’re particularly curious about a few of their children who have made the news cycles.

Collin Gosselin’s “troubles” have been well-documented, as Jon just won custody of him after Kate put him in a school for “special needs” for a number of years. But is Collin the only child of all eight to have difficulties at home? It turns out he’s not.

Kate has talked about Collin Gosselin’s ‘special needs’ in the past

Collin Gosselin’s troubled past is nothing new to followers of the family. Back in 2016, Kate candidly spoke about her son’s issues at home to People — and it sounded quite serious. As she told the publication, “Collin has special needs. [There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own.” Kate also went on to explain that Collin was enrolled in a program away from his seven siblings and home in order to learn special coping skills for his outbursts.

Not only did Kate discuss Collin’s issues in interviews, but she also wrote about him in her memoir, I Just Want You to Know. “At two and a half, you began testing and trying my parenting at every chance. I called Daddy at work many days crying because you would not obey,” Radar Online reports she wrote in her book.

Kate said Alexis was also struggling with the divorce

While fans mainly hear about Collin, there seems to be another one of the sextuplets that also had a few reported behavioral issues growing up — and that was Alexis. Kate spoke to People back in 2010 when Collin and Alexis’ troubles at home were just coming to light. Kate and Jon were freshly divorced at the time, and it seemed to affect these two children more than the other six. As she said, “They’ve been the ones to verbalize the most that they miss Daddy. I could see that they’re the ones struggling the most.”

Kate went to explain that while Collin expressed feelings of rage from the messy and public divorce, “Alexis was angry in a different way. She didn’t want to sit still. She’d get up and want to run around.” This resulted in both of the children, who were 6 at the time, getting a private tutor away from their brothers and sisters.

Alexis allegedly was expelled from school along with Collin

When Kate came forward with Collin and Alexis’ issues in 2010, she assured People that her children were not expelled from school. As she told the publication, “The school would never use that word. [Collin and Alexis] were not expelled. [The school] did not feel like they could meet their needs anymore, so it was decided they should leave, for now.”

According to Radar Online, however, Kate wasn’t being totally straightforward with the truth. The publication noted that one of the Gosselin kids physically harmed an adult twice, and both Alexis and Collin were allegedly abusive to other children at school, resulting in their expulsion. A source close to the school told Radar, “Both Jon and Kate were sent a letter from the head of school explaining that despite their best efforts, staff had reached a point at which they had to request the children enroll in another program.” The source also mentioned that the added stress of paparazzi was enough to set the kids off, too. We’re hoping Collin and Alexis are in better places today, as Collin now seems happier living full-time with Jon while Alexis is still with Kate.
