Is Demi Lovato Being a Hypocrite By Defending Scooter Braun?

Demi Lovato is currently involved in Taylor Swift’s feud with Scooter Braun as one of the most famous people defending Braun. While Braun is Lovato’s manager, Lovato’s decision to side with him has been met with criticism from onlookers.

Some people are even calling her a hypocrite for not supporting Taylor Swift. So why could Demi Lovato’s action be hypocritical? Read on below to find out.

Taylor Swift called out Scooter Braun for being a “bully”

Taylor Swift made the feud between her and Scooter Braun public when she posted a message on Twitter about Braun acquiring her old record company, Big Machine Records. Swift was not happy that Braun now had the rights to the master recordings of many of her past albums.

“I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world,” Swift wrote on her Tumblr account. “All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years… This is my worst case scenario.”

Demi Lovato said Braun is a “good man”

While many artists were vocal about their support for Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato was not one of them. In the wake of news about the feud, Lovato took to Instagram to defend her manager.

“I have dealt with bad people in the industry and Scooter is not one of them,” Lovato told her followers. “He’s a good man. Personally, I’m grateful he came into my life when he did. Please stop ‘dragging’ people or bullying them. There’s enough hate in this world as it is.”

Lovato supported Kesha against Dr. Luke

Lovato’s decision to side with Braun brought up memories about where she stood with Kesha in her legal battle against Dr. Luke.

In 2014, singer Kesha sued producer Dr. Luke for sexual assault, sexual harassment, and emotional abuse. Kesha’s legal battle became one of the biggest news in the music industry and brought forth conversations about wrongdoings in showbiz.

Although Lovato does not have full knowledge of what went on between Kesha and Dr. Luke, she did not hesitate to publicly support Kesha.

In an interview with Latina magazine, Lovato said: “The important thing for me is that people are so afraid to come forward when they are sexually abused or raped because 1) it’s not something that’s easy to prove so you don’t want to go through the whole process and it drags it out. 2) Because it’s hard to prove people are so quick to dispel the rumors or not believe you and therefore nobody’s coming forward and change is only happening in a worse sense.”

Lovato also added that female artists should “support each other.”

Is Demi Lovato being a hypocrite by defending Scooter Braun?

When Taylor Swift called out Scooter Braun for bullying her, Demi Lovato’s refusal to show support for Swift did not sit well with fans.

“Demi Lovato is that hypocritical feminist who says she’s for women’s rights to speak out and expose evil men until such men are her friends/her moneymakers,” a Twitter user said.

“@ddlovato stop protecting him,” someone else commented. “You were saying ‘woman rights’ and what are you doing now? You know he is wrong, you are just supporting him because he is your manager.”

This is actually not the first time Lovato has been called a hypocrite. Over the years, some of her other actions have been criticized as well. For example, Lovato is a body activist who has spoken out about how she suffers from eating disorders and body image issues.

However, she once “thin-shamed” Victoria’s Secret models and promoted weight loss tea on Instagram, showing that perhaps she does not always practice what she preaches.
