Deshaun Watson’s college and NFL experience

Born Derrick Deshaun Watson on September 14, 1995, in Gainesville, Georgia, he became the first freshman quarterback to start on his football team.

He set several state records during his high school career, including the most career passing yards, total touchdowns, total yards, and career passing touchdowns.

At Clemson, Watson won the starting quarterback job again as a freshman but suffered a devastating ACL tear injury. He returned the next year and led his team to an undefeated season as well as an ACC Championship, where he was named MVP for his outstanding performance.

For the first time in Clemson history, Watson was named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy but lost to eventual Tennessee Titans running back, Derrick Henry.

Watson also had a phenomenal junior year and defeated the number one team University of Alabama, to take the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship.

His performance earned him a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist again, but he lost to eventual Cleveland Browns quarterback, Baker Mayfield. After graduating from Clemson in three years with a degree in communications, Watson declared for the 2017 NFL Draft where the Houston Texas selected him 12th overall.

During his first year, he again tore his ACL. However, he underwent successful surgery and came back to have an incredible 2018 season, where he was named to his first career Pro Bowl.
