The show about an outspoken atheist who receives a friend request from God on Facebook was a surprise hit last year. Now, it’s back for a second season, with skeptic Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall) continuing to follow the guidance of his mysterious Facebook friend and work to change the lives of people around him for the better, even if he’s not sure who — or what — is behind the God account.
‘God Friended Me’ was a hit with viewers
Joe Morton, who plays Miles’s dad Rev. Arthur Finer, told CBS News that the message of the show — “That you don’t have to believe in God to believe in good” — can resonate with everyone, whatever their beliefs. That simple truth could explain how God Friended Me became one of the network’s most-watched new shows last year.
The series averaged nearly 8 million viewers during its first season. “Our amazing cast and producers have done a wonderful job of bringing this series to life each week with humorous and inspirational storylines,” said Thom Sherman, CBS’s senior executive vice president of programming, when the network announced the show’s renewal earlier this year. “Viewers have clearly embraced our characters and the positive message the show delivers.”
[A]t the root of it [it’s about helping people,” Hall told CBS4 Miami. “I think that’s the root of any good religion. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you and to help people to make sure you’re thinking to help people before you’re thinking of yourself.”
Is ‘God Friended Me’ on Netflix?
Season 2 of God Friended Me is currently airing on CBS. But what if you want to catch up on last season? Unfortunately, the show isn’t streaming on Netflix. Nor is it on Hulu. However, there are other ways to catch up on old episodes.
While God Friended Me Season 1 isn’t included with your Amazon Prime subscription, you can purchase individual episodes for $2.99 each or the entire season for $24.99. You can also buy season 1 on iTunes, Google Play, and YouTube.
What to expect from the next episode of ‘God Friended Me’
New episodes of God Friended Me air Sundays on CBS. On the October 20 episode, titled “All Those Yesterdays,” Miles, Cara (Violett Beane) and Rakesh (Suraj Sharma) support Joy (Jessica Lu) when The God Account sends her a friend suggestion that brings up painful memories for her. Also, Arthur is tempted by a professional opportunity.
On the October 27 episode, titled “The Greater Good,” Miles’ world and Arthur’s world intersect when the God Account indicates that Bishop Thompson’s (K. Todd Freeman) daughter, Claire (Samantha Marie Ware), is in need of help. Also, Jaya’s (Shazi Raja) parents, impressed with Rakesh’s success, want the pair to move forward in their relationship.
