Is Hallmark Planning a ‘When Calls the Heart’ and ‘Mystery 101’ Crossover? Fans Sure Think So

Hallmark has already announced that a When Calls the Heart spinoff is coming to the network’s streaming service this summer. Now, there are signs that Hearties could have another exciting event to look forward to. Based on a social media post from Mystery 101 star Kristoffer Polaha, some fans think a crossover between that show and When Calls the Heart is in the works.

The Mystery 101 star’s intriguing Instagram post

In an Instagram post from last week, Polaha shared a sneak peek at an upcoming installment of Mystery 101. But it wasn’t footage from a new movie. Rather, it was a look at the place where the cast is filming. And it will look very familiar to When Calls the Heart fans.

“Well hey there, Sleuthers,” Polaha says in the video. “I got a little sneak peek for you. On our newest Mystery 101, Amy and Travis travel back in time. And guess where we solve our next mystery?” The camera then pans around to show the When Calls the Heart set in Langley, British Columbia.

“Now, I bet all you Hearties recognize this place pretty well,” Poloha added. “We’ve got some more good surprises coming up. Stay tuned.”

Does this mean Mystery 101 is coming to Hope Valley?

Polaha, who plays Detective Travis Cole in Mystery 101, did not explicitly say that he and co-star Jill Wagner, who portrays crime fiction expert Amy Winslow, will be interacting with Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) and other Hope Valley residents in the upcoming TV movie. But it definitely seems like a possibility.

Fans certainly seemed to see Polaha’s video as a sign that the crossover was likely. And they were pretty excited about the possibility. “Crossover..?! I’m So intrigued! And very excited!” wrote one.

“Time travel AND a visit to Hope Valley… my kind of movie!!” another person commented. “Now, if only you could go back in time and warn/save Jack Thornton,” wrote another fan, referring to the sudden death of Elizabeth’s husband Jack Thornton at the end of When Calls the Heart Season 5.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that the crossover is happening. It’s possible that Mystery 101 is simply using the When Calls the Heart Set, but that the new movie won’t feature any characters from the popular period drama. But International Business Times speculates that Gracyn Shinyei, who plays Emily Montgomery on WCTH, could be reprising her character for mystery program, based on some clues she’s dropped on her Instagram.

Mystery 101 premiered in January

The first Mystery 101 movie premiered in January 2019 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. Polaha plays a new-in-town detective who arrives on a college campus to investigate the theft of a valuable genetically engineered plant. He meets Amy, a crime professor who is worried about one of her students who has suddenly disappeared. She and Travis team up to solve the two mysteries.

The second Mystery 101 installment is currently filming, and there’s no word yet from Hallmark on when it might air.
