Is It Too Late for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Treat the Tabloids Like Princess Diana Did?

It is a known fact that the British tabloids are pretty harsh. The members of the royal family are already in the spotlight, living very public lives, and it seems that paparazzi and the media actually make things worse. Let’s face it, they really can’t do anything without it becoming headline news, and we can’t imagine how frustrating and invasive that must be.

Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex recently stepped down from their duties as senior royals as a way to begin a quieter, more private life that they just weren’t getting before. Despite their many public requests for privacy, it still doesn’t seem that they are getting it, and even living in California, they are being photographed and reported on in the media. While we can’t say what goes on behind closed doors, most likely, Meghan and Harry may be looking for a new way to get the tabloids to back off a little. What has been going on with Meghan and Harry regarding the tabloids?

Living life in front of the entire world is difficult. Prince Harry, who was born into royalty, wasn’t really given much of a choice in the matter, since being the son of the future king meant that he was famous from the very second that he was born. Meghan, who was famous in her own right before meeting Prince Harry, had no idea just how much more attention she would receive once becoming the Duchess of Sussex.

From the time that the couple announced that they were in a serious relationship, the tabloids just couldn’t get enough, and the coverage of Harry and Meghan wasn’t always accurate, kind, and it didn’t usually portray them in the best way.

In fact, Washington Post reports that the out of control media coverage was a major factor in the Sussexes deciding to step down from royal duties. They were at odds with the tabloids for quite some time, and things just continued to get extremely out of hand.

Just like Harry and Meghan, the late Princess Diana had to deal with endless photographers constantly following her as well as the news media reporting her every move. She was notorious for valuing her privacy, especially when she was off-duty and spending time with her two young sons, and she also had a completely different approach to handling the massive amount of attention that she received. So, what did Diana do?

According to BestLife, rather than get upset with the tabloids, she chose to become friends with the reporters who were writing about her on a regular basis. The princess even went so far as to invite some of them to Kensington Palace for a “charm offensive” that was extremely effective. It was almost as if becoming their friend helped Diana, and she definitely knew how to turn the tables in the right direction.

Some fans might wonder if it is too late for Meghan and Harry to do the same thing that Diana did all those years ago. Chances are, it is. Harry and Meghan are in a completely different place than Diana was, and they probably should have used Diana’s strategy from the very beginning if they wanted to maintain a relationship. Now that they have not only expressed their disapproval but also have been involved in lawsuits against the tabloids, treating them the same as Diana did most likely would be ineffective.
