Is Jennifer Lopez the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show Performer?
As far as Super Bowl halftime shows go, they’ve got to razzle, dazzle, sizzle and get the crowd on its feet.
As Adele endearingly said a few years back, “I’m not doing the Super Bowl…I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that.”
The buzz this year it that superstar Jennifer Lopez is in talks to headline the big game in Miami, a city that she and fiancee, Alex Rodriguez, have strong ties to. Headlining this show would cap off an amazing year for the Latina powerhouse, after blowing critics away for her powerful performance in Hustlers, which is already generating talk of an Oscar for JLo.
Super Bowl halftime shows people still talk about
Of course, millions tune in to the Super Bowl to witness the best football teams meeting in the ultimate contest of great athletic acumen. But the rest of us watch it for the the hilarious ads and the halftime performers.
Some of the amazing acts we’ve seen over the years that still have people talking include Katy Perry and the dancing shark, Beyoncé reuniting with her Destiny’s Child bandmates, Lady Gaga appearing to leap from the roof of NRG Stadium, and the one and only Prince rocking out to “Purple Rain” in the pouring rain.
Lopez’s fans think the singer could put on a show that would garner the same type of reactions over what she would bring to the stage.
Will she or won’t she perform at Super Bowl LIV?
There’s no doubt that Jennifer Lopez is an iconic entertainer, and one of the most famous women in the world. Over the years, she has managed to chart her own course in a difficult industry and has become a force of nature in entertainment. In fact, JLo has been called a quadruple threat because she’s an actress, singer, producer, and dancer. That list doesn’t even mention her other accomplishments. She also runs a business empire, and she’s a mom to her two children, 11-year-old twins Maximilian and Emme.
As mentioned earlier, she has a new movie, Hustlers, co-starring Cardi B, Lizzo, and Constance Wu. The critical acclaim and Oscar buzz has even JLo stunned.
“You work hard your whole life, and you wonder if anybody notices, in a sense, on that level, to be in that conversation,” she told Hoda Kotb in a recent SiriusXM radio interview. “You have dreams when you’re a little girl of being there [at the Oscars], you know what I mean?”
With all her projects, business interests, and raising two kids the question today is: Will she perform at Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida?
“In theory, yes it would be [great to say yes to the offer],” she added. “It’s something that we’ve talked about for many years and it would be nice. I can’t say I wouldn’t love it.”
The performer who just said ‘No’ to the Super Bowl
While JLo would “love” to be asked and would certainly contemplate performing at the big show much like a cat plays with a mouse, one artist who has firmly refused to lend her artistic talents to the event is Rihanna.
Rihanna told ET, “I still got an album to finish. You gonna ask me about Super Bowl? My fans about to have my neck.”
On top of her forthcoming album, the singer has other projects in the works as well, so fans will have to be patient with her when it comes to her next album.
“Whatever I do is gonna be confident whether it’s the album, perfume, lingerie, makeup, or fashion,” she said. “Y’all gonna have to wait. Navy, I’m so sorry.”
We still have hope though that Jenny from the block will be asked and say yes to performing live at Super Bowl LIV. Stay tuned!
