Is Kanye West Running For President in 2024? Here’s What He Really Said

There’s a chance that Donald Trump winning the 2106 election won’t be the most shocking event of modern times. If rap mogul Kanye West has his way, we might all be chanting Yeezy for President in 2024.

This latest announcement should come as no surprise for anyone who’s been following Kanye West for any amount of time. The 42-year-old entrepreneur and Christian evangelist has been making all kinds of changes in his life, such as abandoning secular music to sing about his extreme love for Jesus. West has also become an outspoken political commentator, asserting opinions on a variety of controversial topics.

When West voiced his desire to run for the highest office in the land at the Fast Company Innovation Festival, fans started laughing at his obvious joke.

But it turns out Kanye West was dead serious.

Kanye West is making big plans for the future

West expounded on plenty of topics at the gathering, including future plans for his billion-dollar fashion brand, Yeezy. He’s got big dreams of bringing manufacturing back to the United States and create jobs in the meantime.

“We’re going to be farming and going seed to sew and have our own cotton, hydroponic farm, hemp farm, and wheat farm…and getting into how we can have less impact with the dyes, because our colors are a big signature of the brand. But also dyeing is one of the main things that’s impacting the planet in the fashion industry, so just being responsible from A to Z,” West explained.

“Within the next two years, our goal is to bring the manufacturing back to America, South America, and North America and bring it back stateside, also to present jobs for people back here.”

What did Kanye West say about running for president?

Creating jobs isn’t just Kanye West’s personal goal as a business owner — it’s also part of his potential political platform.

“When I run for President in 2024,” West said before being interrupted by peals of laughter.

“What y’all laughing at? We would create so many jobs! I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk. When you see headlines saying Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!”

This isn’t the first time West threatened to run for office

It’s not like this idea just came out of the blue. Kanye West alluded to a presidential run as far back as 2015. And in 2018, he explained that he doesn’t subscribe to one party or the other.

“For someone to say you can’t ride with both sides… it’s like a modern idea of gang banging or something,” West said. “Even red or blue—it’s still red or blue. It’s divisions. We don’t need to think in divisions. We need to think in arms because we’re actually one race, one people, one civilization.”

We don’t know if Kanye West really plans to run for president in 2024. But hey, stranger things have happened!
