Is Kate Middleton Invited to Meghan Markle’s Birthday Party? This Isn’t Reassuring
Meghan Markle’s birthday is almost here. (!!!)
On Aug. 4, the Duchess of Sussex turns 38, and she’s reportedly ringing in the occasion with a celebration at Frogmore Cottage. Close family members and friends will join Markle for her big day, but some of your faves reportedly won’t — like Kate Middleton, for example.
It’s “unlikely” that Markle invited Middleton to her party
A source told The Sun in an Aug. 2 report, “It is unlikely that the Cambridges will be invited to Meghan’s 38th birthday on Sunday.”
It’s unclear why Middleton likely won’t receive an invite, but the outlet reported that Markle is trying to have a “low-key” party. She reportedly doesn’t want anything too fancy following the “PR disaster” surrounding her NYC baby shower. ICYMI, the shower received criticism for its hefty price tag and star-studded guest list.
The update comes amid feud rumors between the two duchesses
Markle and Middleton have faced feud rumors for months now. However, they’ve been trying their best to prove that there’s no tension between them. In July, for example, they made several joint appearances together, including at Wimbleton and a polo match between their husbands.
Sources have also said the two are forging a healthy relationship. One insider told HELLO! Magazine (via The Daily Mail), “Kate was a great source of support to Meghan in the days leading up to Archie’s birth. Despite reports of a rift, they are family and have a really lovely friendship. Their relationship has certainly evolved over time and they have become closer since Meghan’s wedding.”
“They talk and text regularly. They have more in common, and Kate has wanted to make sure Meghan has felt welcome into the family,” the insider continued.
Markle has other birthday plans
The duchess has at least two other things planned, according to reports. For one, she’s spending some time with Prince Harry, who will be flying back from an Italian work trip to hang out with her.
“Prince Harry will be back from Google Camp in Sicily, where he gave a speech about the fight against climate change, so they’ll be spending Meghan’s birthday quietly as a family. The Sussexes have been so busy this year that I can imagine her birthday will simply involve a well-deserved day of rest with a few friends—and, of course, precious moments with Archie,” royal reporter Omid Scobie said.
Queen Elizabeth has something special planned for Markle, too
The Queen has reportedly invited Markle to her favorite retreat, Balmoral, where she’ll throw her a tea party.
“It is a testament to Meghan that she has been given this invite. It’s a huge [honor],” a source told The Sun. “They will celebrate Meghan’s birthday, and the catering team will bake a cake to mark the occasion.”
“Meghan may be a Duchess who can have anything she wants but the Queen is giving her a thoughtful present,” the insider continued. “It’s no secret Balmoral is Her Majesty’s [favorite] home and that’s why this invite is so special and heartfelt.”
The Sun notes that the Cambridges are also expected to visit Balmoral during August. But it’s unclear whether the visit is related to Markle’s reported tea party.
Maybe it is; maybe it isn’t. Keep your eyes open for updates.
